Posted this here, because I'm looking for ideas. Yeah, it's not a LC, it's a CJ5...

I want an 'off the shelf' storage/tool box to fit in the back of my CJ5. I really don't have the time to make one myself (although I have a good amount of woodworking tools). The area is 36" wide, 24" deep, and it can be up to 24" tall. I'm looking for something that opens at the top, and has a drawer on the bottom. Tuffy is insanely priced on their rear storage boxes, and what they have doesn't really meet my 'wants'.

Anything in the LC World that come's close?

Try looking at a brand called Buyers . I have used a few of their boxes and have good results, and they offer a ton of different styles.

Thanks, I'll give them a look!

I appreciate your reply. I cannot tell you how much bandwidth I've burnt up searching on the web (Google, Bing, Pintrest,) for the 'perfect solution'. That particular box (I'm on that forum), doesn't have the bottom drawer I'm lusting after. Lund (Home Depot) has a 36" box (no bottom drawer), but the reviews aren't all that stellar.

Maybe these could work on top of the fender? Storage Solution for FJ40s, Trailers, etc.
That was the post that got me thinking. Those look sturdy, but price + shipping lessens the attractiveness. The back of a FJ40 has to be similar in size to my CJ5, although the inner wheel wells appear to be wider.

Here's a company I found: Products That I'm going to send an email to, and see if they would be interested in building a smaller version of their Titan design. I'd be happy with just one bottom drawer, being the width is only 36", but I'd want the depth to be 24", and the height 20-24".

I've got woodworking tools, and I may have to HackFab up one myself. Although, I'd rather have it in steel or aluminum.

Keep the ideas coming!

Uncle Sam is your friend too, you just need to get lucky
Yes. Military surplus would be great. Sportsman's Guide has a few on their site. None of them are hinged at the top, and have the bottom drawer(s).

The search continues.

On a side note: What are the dimensions of the rear area in a FJ40? Specifically between the wheel wells and rear door to front seat?
