Transfer case damage is unlikely. Front diffs on these trucks fail pretty often but their transfer cases are solid and would be extremely rare to have problems with one. Get the front diff replaced and setup properly and you will be good to go.

Sign up for AAA. Tow it to ACC Toyota in Decatur. Get your LX in good hands and let the pro's work on it. Your tech spinning the back wheel saying your transfer case is blown should be a red flag that you are about to get a hefty repair bill in 4 months when he figures out what's going on with it and orders more parts than needed and installs half of them.
I understand you are friends with this mechanic and he's cutting you a break on labor but from the posts you have made I would let him no where near my rig! I gave you all the parts needed to put your diff back together except the install kit that will be needed. The next step would be finding someone that knows what they are doing. I sent all parts we agreed on, front carrier with spider gears and ring and pinion, also sent the bearings but I would not recommend using them.Reviving this thread. My lx is still in the shop but my mechanic is saying that the parts I received from benc are not enough to do the job and that he needs a whole front end assembly, what's my next move?
what - exactly - does he mean by "front end assembly"?? There is no such thing, or, it means different things to different people. One more red flag...Reviving this thread.
