Just got in from a 5 day trip in n central Ar. And am reminded once again of the beauty of a basic, simple rig. I was in the 60 and was with 2 heep Cherokees one had a check engine light come on that we found was a sensor in his tranny and wouldn't let it shift to first or 3rd. So we tried the unhooking the battery reset which would work for a while but then would re occur and force another reset . We were pretty far away from much when the other heep sucked water at this crossing which killed the engine since the air box intake was just behind his grill. we winched him out backwards , pulled the now soaked air filter and cleaned a the water we could. Carefully checked for a hydro lock but luckily it was ok. We finally got it started then he had a engine light come on and his tranny wasn't shifting right. After getting to a decent road we scanned it to find a bad throttle position sensor .. Awesome .... So I run 120 mile RT to get a sensor while they sat and drank beer .. Dang it.

So then we get the sensor replaced and hopefully call it good ... Nope now the other one has his light come back on and won't shift . This happens a few times and is temporary fixed by resetting the computer. So we run a few trails then the one that took water starts puking tranny fluid ... I won't go all into the details as it goes on and on ... But the ole 60 never sputtered or let me down and we ran one trail that was probably 3-4 miles of what would be a upper 3 At Superlift , which was a little more intense than planned but this springs floods did a number on the trails . Long story just to say that a simple manual shift, carbed , roll up windows and no dang computer vehicle with solid axles and leaf springs probably isn't as efficient or comfortable as a more modern rig but it proves its self time and time again. I've had my days and will have more , believe me I love my 100 and it has its place, but in the long run I'll take simple, every day in a non DD vehicle

AMEN!

You think it's that easy, Slacker? You tell a neat little story about some unfortunate J€€p owners and get away with rubbing our nose in your 5 day trip to Gods country? I see through you, buddy. ;)

(No, no jealousy here at all)

Yea no doubt , I guess I do take this country for granted sometimes , even when running with old guys in heeps :)

I guess it's been cool enough there to camp. Nice.

Mississippi is hell in August. Even this August which is the best on record.

I'm about to make my 60 back new. It's going to be my go-to Arkansas rig. Book that s***.

Same here. My 60 is my DD as much as possible. Last week I made a 400+ mile run from AL to Charleston, SC to attend a meeting. Made the same run to return home. The 2F is tight and with the H55F easily cruised at 65-70 with a mpg of 13-14. No AC drag because I gutted that long ago, just crank down the windows and let air flow.

Jim do you run H55 and 3.70 gears?

No 4.11s from FJ62. Tires are 33x10.5 KO and in 5th with the gearing the 2F is turning about 2500 which seems to be the sweet spot for it running the highway at around 65-70.

I'm using a 3FE exhaust on the 2F and that may allow the engine to flow exhaust a little better.

I tried that combo (with a tired engine) and there wasn't enough power to use 5th gear. 4.11s added 50 horsepower.
