I did post in the 4-runner section but haven't gotten a reply. Since there is a wealth of knowledge here, I figured I'd post here too...See below

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My check engine along with the "trac off" & "vsc trac" lights came on today while on the higway. Did a 120 mile round trip. This happened a few miles after I had just filled up with gas. Super unleaded was at $2.05/gallon, so I said "why not" and filled it up. I normally just use regular unleaded. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance...

I doubt the better quality fuel would have done that.

Just doing a GOOGLE search for "4 runner trac off vsc trac lights came on" I came up with this:

My toyota 4runner check engine, VSC TRAC, and TRAC OFF light are all on? - Yahoo! Answers

04 4-runner Transmisssion VSC Trac VSC off lights - YotaTech Forums

and one more

Toyota - 4Runner . org Forum - Check engine light, VSC TRAC & TRAC OFF lights

Hope that helps!

thanks JLH911! Lots of good info here. I will check into it.

Seeing as how you just refueled, my money says your gas cap is loose. The VSC and Trac Off lights always come on with the check engine lamp. This is because your VSC and trac control systems algorithms are written to perform with a nominally operating engine. If the check engine lamp is on (signaling some type of engine malfunction), the VSC and Trac systems disable to be on the safe side.

That is the 1st thing I thought of, so I pulled over to check... Cap was nice and tight so I gave a few more clicks just in case. I was thinking of buying a new gas cap just in case this one has a bad seal...
