I plan to get a similar saw. My brother purchased a ms170 a couple of yrs ago and is a de-light to use. At a couple hundred bucks, it seems to be a hell of a deal.
I have it about 4 years now and have not had an iota of difficulty with it…chains are cheap too… 3 sets for $28-30.00. They last, easy to touch up with a round file and easy enough to change with that Quik-release system they have
 
Yup, it is very true that with age comes more potential danger to working with the big saws. Especially for those of us (errm...., OK, me) who haven't figured out yet that we are in fact getting older. Would be easier to get in over one's head with a big saw if not as physically strong any more. So, yes, smaller is better for that aspect too.
