I was working last night, and someone came up to me and said "hey, your car just got hit."

So I go outside, and of course, the first time my vehicle is involved in an accident, it HAS to be by a Jeep.

The flare on the driver side back door got ripped off, and the sheet metal got pushed in a bit. The Jeep just had a broken tail light.

I was sorta parked where I wasn't supposed to, and I think he had been drinking, so I told him not to worry about it, and started to walk away and he handed me a wad of 20s.

So when I'm not working and it's not raining in the next few days, I'm going to pop the sheet metal back out, take off the rest of the flares, and take it over to Mudrak's sometime next week and get it Rhinolined or Durabaked or whatever he does at his magical shop of wonders and stuff.

What's the best way to remove the interior door panels? I can't figure out how to get them all the way off, I can get the part with the plastic plugs, but the part where it meets the window, I can't figure out how to get off.

And from past experiences with non-car related problems, pulling really hard on stuff tends to break it.

I'll upload some pictures in a bit.

Must be one of those "Jeep things".

Getting those panels off, easy. After you get those plastic clips popped, pull up, and it'll unclip from the window.

Pull really hard.

Oh shoot, I forgot those.

Here's a bunch of photos of me doing the same thing a couple days ago
Pop this off first. on Flickr - Photo Sharing!

Alright, here's the Jeep carnage shots, I'll take some pictures without the flares, and again when I get the sides lined.

I dunno how bad it looks in the pictures, but the back window still rolls down and the weatherstripping is still sealing the interior from the outside. So. It's not wretched. But.

I figure one new door wouldn't look good with 3 200k mile doors.

Also, these damn Michelin's won't run out of rubber already. They've got about 60k miles on them with still probably half the tread left. Stupid 275s.....

I would have made him pay me for all of the damage. You could use the money for mods and keep the damage. That is some pretty serious damage though....

Did he seem apologetic? I guess it depends on the situation....you might have made the right decision, but if he was drinking....I might have nailed him to the board.

It could have easily gone either way. One of the guys I work with told me that the guy is hella loaded.

So anything I did, he probably would have sent his lawyer after me. I dunno. I completely forgot that I should have just gotten the check for damages.

Jesus Christ where were you at 9:00 last night when my Cruiser was getting hit? :bang::bang::bang::bang::bang::bang::bang::bang::bang:

I wouldn't second guess the way you handled the accident. If you tried to get more money out of him without going through to proper channels he could go after you for extortion. I had an ex-brother-in-law that almost went to prison for exactly the same thing (too bad the judge went easy on him!). Also, if you were parked where you weren't supposed to and got hit, your insurance company might raise your rates. I guess it depends on if you were parked in a no parking zone. It's too bad you got hit. Hopefully the wad of cash he gave you will cover the damage. Your rocker still looks good and I'd guess that would be the hardest part to fix. The sheet metal should be pretty easy. Don't forget about the phillips head screws under the top part of the arm rest. I just had mine off the other day. You have to pop all of the snap connectors around the perimeter, remove the screws in the arm rest, remove the handle trim and lift it up to pop it out of the window channel.

I was sorta parked where I wasn't supposed to...

FWIW, I'm pretty sure it'd be his responsibility regardless. Even if it was an undesignated parking spot, if you hit someone elses vehicle, you pay.

Had a similar thing happen to me one time at a park. I had to parked on the side of the drive opposite a parking lot (it was full). A lady backed out into the side of my car. She complained I was improperly parked in an undesignated area. Her insurance company said it didn't matter, she hit another car so they're resposible for the damage. Never even had to get my insurance company involved.

Pretty cool on your part. Hope you get it fixed okay.

I really regret not getting his info now. I remembered earlier today that my friend got backed into, and a dent he pulled out with a plunger was worth 1500 dollars.

If I had called the insurance company and had an auto body shop give me a quote on repairs, I'd probably be sitting on a 2k dollar check right now.... Enough for rhino lining, AND a lift. Argh.

I'm a fool. But yeah, tusk74, the rockers are okay, the paints a little scraped, but if it's not raining tomorrow, I'm going to see what I can do about the sheet metal. Good thing I have my touch up paint already....

I guess it depends on your insurance company. I was with a friend who backed into an illegally parked car. Both parties exchanged information. A few weeks later I got a call from my friend's insurance company and one of the questions they asked was if the guy was parked legally. I told them he was not parked legally and that was the end of the story. My friend never heard another word about it and his rates remained unchanged. I can't be sure if my friend's insurance paid out anything, I assumed they didn't. One would think that if they hit another car, they would be at fault.

I got my flares off today. Holy crap there was a lot of crap stuck underneath them. 14 years worth of dust and grime.... Plus a lot of sand from SnT.

Tomorrow, I'm going to get the rivets off of the back doors, and then when Mudrak gets back from Tahoe, I'm probably going to get the spray on bedliner done.

Until then, what's the best way to cover up the holes left from the bolts? And what's going to happen to them when the bedliner gets sprayed on?

Should I just JB Weld the holes and then sand it even with the body?

Here's pics. Surprisingly, it doesn't look bad with stock tires. I guess it sort of makes them look bigger.

Before you line the truck stick squares of metal tape over the holes.

I've been flareless for 6 months, the holes just sit open. If I were you I'd cover up the holes that come after the doors on the truck... otherwise you get weird wind noise. I have mine taped from the inside.

The LC looks ghetto with no armor, flareless, no front bumper, and no rear bumperettes. :flipoff2:

Have you decided what style of lining you're doing? I ghetto rigged these for my truck:

Someone recently had a green emerald driver's rear door in the for sale section here and it was a good price - $50? 4 bolts and you've got a matching straight door.

He's gonna pop out the dent and prime the door and order me some paint.

I dropped the Cruiser off around 10 today, I might be able to get it tonight, or sometime tomorrow morning.

So look for pics of the radness soon. I dunno if I posted it yet, but I'm getting the black lining about to about half way up, where there's the 2nd crease. I don't know a better word to describe it other than crease....

That looks pretty cool.

I took some pictures. I was waiting until it was sunny, but that only happened for a few hours. Then I couldn't find my USB cable for my camera. So I had to retake some pictures with my cell phone. They're not very good quality.

They did an amazing job fixing the dent and lining the sides. It looks awesome.

I just need to save up money now to get rid of the primer.

I'll get some more hi-def pictures when it decides to stop being rainy.
