Ok, so i finally found me a 60 series cruiser, this is a first for me, i have had 4 fj40's and an 80series so far, but never a 60, so i am excited about this new one. It does have a couple of problems though.

1. Battery would not charge, so i replaced the alternator and it still would not charge. (fixed) the fusible link was bad at the battery.

2. It runs beautifully at idle and down the road at low rpms, when i come to a stop i cant even tell it is running half the time. but when i try to get on the hwy and am getting on it prolly around 2800-3000 RPM's it will start to die out and choke and buck until i pull the choke, then it will smooth out for a couple seconds or 2 and start getting progressively worse expecially if i keep my foot into the petal.
Now if i let off the gas it kinda regains its self and sometimes will run like normal. one time it actually died on the side of the road and would not stay running.

I am kind of stumped because it starts right up and idles perfect.
It has new plugs wires, cap and rotor.
I tried bypassing the EGR as per instructions on here and to no avail.

Any clues?
Oh here is a pic of it

Congrats!!!! nice color too and becarful with the rust though.
now start with the basics problems and then you can go with the fun parts like lift, big tires. etc.

  and welcome for a new 60 guy on board!!!

This side we are seeing is the worst rust on the truck. My goal is to make it reliable for right now, so if you guys have any suggestions on my problem please post up.
Thanks

do a couple of searches on idle cut off solenoid. that sounds like the culprit. also double check your vacuum secondary that may be a problem as well. Over time they tend to get holes in them and not work very well.

welcome to the club.

Looks good. Tires need replacing for sure.

As for the rust, cut out the back half of the arch and weld in new. See Cool cruiser of texas for the repair piece. They have a 6 week plus waiting period, so order early.

On the rocker, you can cut out the areas and either weld in new chunks or glue in with structural body glue. 50 bucks or so a tube.

Cool!
thanks for the tips and advice.
I tried the ICS trick that Jim advised in other threads. no worky.

Check the integrity of the fuel transfer pump......

Dashpot? I have never heard of a dashpot or a fuel transfer pump. Fuel pump yes?
Pics please.

I need help with a fusible link in my 60. Does it have to do with the portion of wire running off of the + side of the battery that is white on one side and green on the other where you can attach and unattach from the vehicle? It's about 3 or 4 inches long. I hope that made sense.

Dashpot is what controls the vacuum secondaries. Sounds like you may just have a lean condition. Not sure if those carbs have jets for the secondaries, or if they are just metered, but if the secondary plates are opening and not getting sufficient fuel, it will make it go very lean and stumble, "sneeze", and/or die.

check the fuel delivery, blow out gas tank suction and return tubing lines , i think mine had junk floating aroung in the lines restricting flow, change fuel filter(cheap). add dry gas, to fuel as mine had water in the fuel after sitting for some time from PO. I could not get it out by just refueling alone and DD. mine acted same way as yours until I did the above. Try a couple easy, cheap things first. I almost put a new carb on because of the problem and it did not turn out to be that bad of problem to fix. good luck

I put a new fuel filter and fuel pump in and it has not given me any problems. Probably a combo of lack of fuel pressure due to my pump going bad and a partially clogged filter.
thanks
