I found this interesting article about the weakness of the 4L60E tranny

I ran a "built" 4l60e with a big stall in my old drag car for a while. For the cost of a good rebuild with high end parts it sure didn't hold up well. I got a season out of mine before it started having problems. This was back before the 4l80e was a viable option too. I would say just buy an 4l80e, you will be money ahead long term.

thanks for the response. i am almost ready to buy a new engine and tranny just trying to buy the right one from the beginning. so many different feedbacks about the the 4l60. i will doo more research on the 4l80e . just dont want it to be a money pit just trying to get it to work with ls1. i will have too look into maybe just buying the 6.0 with 4l80e.
thanks . any more info will be great.

The 60 is a known POS. Get an 80 and be done with it. Former GM Worldwide Powertrain Planner here.

What about the 4L65E? That's basically the 4L60E gearing with similar strength of the 4L80E. The 4L60E can be beefed up and made quite strong. Talk to a good transmission builder. (I am not one)

If you got the $$$ go with a 6l80. Mark's Adapters said they would have the adapters in Sept.
