I almost finished restoration of my 1988 FJ62 and changed color.

Batman: LPG powered vehicles are fairly common here in Oz. There were some teething problems in the early days. Most vehicles used to be started on petrol and then immediately switched to Gas (LPG), but nowadays we can actually buy some cars directly from the manufacturer that are made to run only on LPG. The main problem is that if you run your vehicle on petrol and LPG then you need the space for LPG tank/s and petrol tank.

There are very few problems (if any) with running an LPG powered vehicle here. Sometimes, in remote areas, someone might find it harder to get LGP, but otherwise it is cleaner and cheaper than petrol. I am quite puzzled as to why the EPA would ban something that puts out less pollution and is quite safe!!!

Many petrol cruisers here are converted to run on LPG as well, and don't suffer from any problems that I have ever heard about.

BTW: we refer to gas as LPG; ULP, etc as petrol. (Just in case there is any confusion).

Gas here is around $0.49c per litre (and in many cases less).
Petrol (ULP) is around $1.18 per litre (it's changing nearly every day).
On LPG you would use more litres than for the same distance with petrol, but it is still more economical to drive using LPG.

Most taxis here run on LPG!!!
One early teething problem was quite funny. The Holden Commodore (biggest selling family car) had a problem if the engine backfire while on LPG as it would physiaclly blow out the left headlight!
Any cars that didn't have hardened valve seats would/could suffer from early wear.

The reason I got for the ban was that they couldn't make a bi-fuel and have it pass EPA standards for both LPG and "ULP". It was discovered that when running on LPG it passed, but when you switched to ULP it caused more pollution. I to am puzzled why they would do that.

Do you have a part number of a coversion kit? I would like to convert mine. I would locate the LPG tanks to the roof rack. I think.

Thanks,

Bruce

Running an LPG tank on the outside is not the best spot.
Apart from the wind resistance chewing your fuel up,there are also safety matters.
Most aussie 60 series replace the existing fuel tank with the an LPG cylinder.
They then have a aftermarket 10 gallon petrol tank in between the chassis forward of the diff.
Another new idea is LPG tanks that are the same shape as your old tank.
Out of all vehicles converted to gas ,landcruisers or toyotas in general are the best performing.
Some cars such as Mitsubishi Monteray dont convert well

We Korea have very similiar situation with what RoddQLD said.
Also regarding pollution control, same with what you said.
All taxi uses LPG and only 5 passenger sedans uses petrol. All other vehicles use diesel or LPG.
I adopted LPG system from other vehicle and know Toyota don't offer LPG kit for land cruiser.
To reduce the problem what you said, I adjust ignition timing using octane selector which attached at distributer.
LPG has bigger octane value than gasoline that we must advance ignition timing when using LPG.
Many vehicle which came from gasoline system from factory convert bi-fuel in Korea and I also did.
Almost of them locate LPG tank in trunk or under the floor but FJ62 don't have good location under floor that I had no other choice but locate LPG tank in cargo area.
The shape of LPG tank is cylinder that it was problem to me.

Here's a photo of my FJ62's cargo area. LPG tank in located in the square box.
I agree with roscoFJ73's opinion that locating LPG tank on the roof rack is not a good idea.

Oh, Min Seok

ps, First, I posted this to discuse about my work and choice of color for FJ62 but now this post moved to discussion about LPG conversion :)

Love the ambulance doors too, but the rims need to go. You did a great job Min. A lot of hard work and a great return on your investment of time and money.

Wow, that looks nice. The paint job looks clean and very pro. I like the interior surface repaint as well.

I'm going to have to check with Cruiserdan about those part numbers. What exactly do the steps bolt to? There must be more than sheet metal screws holding them in place.

I think that the step bolts through the ornament, then trhough the body and into the retainer (but this isn't made clear on the microfiche that I got the part numbers off).

I'm new to the BB and new to landcruisers. Just bought a 85 in perfect condition bone stock. Want to put a roof cargo rack on top that covers the whole roof area. I also plan on jacking this puppy up about 4" and putting 32's x 12.5 underneath it. After looking at those steps, I know I have to score me a pair of those bad boys. So if any of you guys find a way to order these, please let me know.

Thanks

By the way: I have been lurking for about a week now on this BB, and I have found so much useful info. on here. Just wanted to put that out there!!!

Those bolts holds step itself and go through step->ornament->body->retainer.
retainer has nuts for fixing and might be welded to body inside.
