I <3 LEDs and hate dash lights

Here are a couple of shots of stock LC lighting with same camera settings as Loud's in post #3.

Remove the glass from cluster, and the top steering column cover and you can squeeze it out to the left of the wheel, over the signal/light stalk.

I don't know if the LC's work the same way as the LX's, but on the LX with a motorized column you can extend the column another 1/2" out and 1/2" down by pulling the "control switch" towards you 8 times rapidly AFTER the maximum has been reached, (do the same downwards to lower it 1/2") This way the cluster comes out easily without removing the steering column.

Hmm, my steering column isn't motorized and I wonder if the same space can be achieved as that of the LX.

Loud, do you know what bulb # is for the gauge lights? It looks like there are 2 different bulbs behind the cluster but I just don't know their exact bulb #s. Sylvania says 194, but I know they aren't.

Did mine a little differently. Inside map light housing there is a ledge, mounted LEDs through it. Grabbed power from map light feed and put a little black push-on, push-off switch at back of light trim. Picked up all the parts at Fry's, including 10,000mcd red LEDs. In photo map lights are off and LEDs are behind lens, blown camera highlights make it look less red than it is.

Here is the comparision shot. A dimmer but broader pattern. Broader pattern comes from map light lens as I think both Loud and my LED's are 20 degree. These Leds are a little cooler temp. Not sure if map light lens makes it more distracting than bare LEDs.

I'm actually thinking of remounting mine, flush with the panel instead of using the inserts, so you cant see the light at all from above, and it just illuminates stuff. Looks good either way, just what you need while at moab and not mess up your night vision. I like the broader pattern.

Has anyone seen a combo white and red LED for the map lights? Had an LED flashlight with this function where it had 3 white LEDs and 1-2 red LEDs in the same unit and there would be a switch that allows you to toggle between the two. This would be the ideal setup...

Also, it's worth checking out what the 80 freaks have done when it comes to LEDs... freakin' unreal

Here's a clip showing how the rack lights work, and how effective they are. required

Loud, do you have a link to where yo purchase those rack lights? Looks like you've tailored their mount to the rack?

Kinda old thread and didn't want to start new one; wanted to share...I too just installed red LEDs for night vision and privacy from the outside.
I got power from the map lights and wired the rest to the lighted LED rocker switches.

Thanks for the idea Loud.

Anthony, I REALLY like that setup. May have to do a v.2
