I've been running George's older style LEDs for a few years and have been pretty happy with them. Then I saw the article in the current 4WD Toyota Magazine about the Roundeyes. I did a bit of searching for a comparison and see George has a new type out as well.

So I'm wondering if anyone has tried George's new style vs. the Roundeyes. I'm happy with the brigtness of George's older style, but would like a wider pattern. Has anyone done a side-by-side of both of these newer types?

My old style and new style both use high powered LEDs that have a near 180deg 'beam' - the only way to get a wider angle is to replace the plastic lens on the dome fixture - it isn't the LED that is creating the light 'angle'...

I've never noticed any issue with the 'width' of the beam from the cruiser's dome fixtures with my LEDs - seems to light things quite evenly to me ???

cheers,
george.

No idea about the roundeyes, but Georges new LED's are have a very wide beam, no hot spotting that I can see. Great product and I can understand now what all the fuss is about.

George, may be a stupid question, but can you get these LED's in red? I dont want this for bling, I want bright light at night but dont want to be blinded by it when the wife turns it on to tend to the younguns. Just curious
thanks

A Red Rebel LED driven at 350mA would be VERY VERY annoyingly bright. You would totally trash your night vision.

And, beyond that - the Red for night vision really is a myth...

Night Vision - The Red Myth

You can see if nothing else green/blue would be a better choice but without being able to be dimmed would also trash your night vision too.

If things are too bright, you are better off just masking your dome fixture and making a 'slit'. Once the young ones no longer are that young you can remove the tape and return your fixture to full brightness...

cheers,
george.

Did someone say LED :grinpimp:
George's LED is all you need, mine are annoyingly bright.

I agree, I tried one of those 48 LED arrays in my dome light and its painfully bright. I am going to try one of these guys next from superbriteleds.com

I was a little disappointed in the customer service I got from them the last time...namely Tracy. Not sure if I was refunded for one of the LEDs that I told them to keep since it didn't work for me. Asked them in my email twice with no response whether the refund was coming or not. Not a lot of money but I still want to be taken care of when I order from a company like that. :meh:

Actually this was autolumination I was talking about. Sorry for the confusion.
