HZ79 Aux fuel tank - will it fit

My fuel filler pipe has corroded to the point where it is now leaking at each fuel fill. It is leaking where it is attached to one of the frame cross members. I just came back from the stealership, and the cost for a new one is CAN$416. I'm thinking of installing a dual filler neck and tube if I can get this HZ79 tank to fit. What do you think? Is it too deep?

Did You ever have any luck with fitting this tank? I am looking down the same path as I have having a difficult time sourcing anything aftermarket bolt on.

No, not yet, but still I'am thinking about it. I've patched up the leak with some two part epoxy stuff, but it is still leaking a bit. I'll likely have to make a decision soon though as to wether to go the OEM replacement filler neck, or try to adapt a larger tank. I really want a larger tank, as my range now is just over 400 kms.

It fits in the chassis rails just fine. This is a 79 tank in a 105 chassis. (Basically same as an 80 series).

If you turn it around it will put the filler on the right side.

Looks like it was made to fit with those tank supports. Are they from the 79 as well, incl the C channel type traverse support? The 80 has a transverse support for the spare tire.
Would you mind taking a pic showing how far it protrudes below the frame rails? The depth of the tank is my only real concern when it comes to off-roading.

Yeah. All brackets and c channel is from the 79. I'll try and get a pic 2moro of how low it hangs
