Hydroboost - Return spring or not

I needed to use one on mine.

I did use one on my current setup. The HB unit sprung a leak from the input push rod causing a waterfall of ATF into the foot well. I am installing a replacement unit this weekend and thought it would be a good idea to ask. I know all the install and bleeding articles say to never pull up on the brake pedal as damage to the HB can occur. That got me thinking about the brake pedal return spring.

On mine to hydro boost unit itself didn’t have enough return spring pressure to engage the brake light switch and trying to adjust it out would cause the brakes to drag without a return spring.

Basically the return spring lets the pedal bottom on the return stop and switch and lets hydro boost rod retain some free play without pulling or pushing if that makes sense.

I plan to reconnect my spring unless I hear otherwise. I was reading an article just now that showed a factory HB brake pedal did have a return spring.

Same here, I too needed and used a spring to return the brake pedal on mine.

The hydro boost club is a bit bigger than I thought. I just started working my kinks out. Any posts you guys could point me to, or tips for initial set up. I have searched and didnt find much. Nothing on initial setup exactly. Mine is 2010 1ton Chevy pick up version transplanted into an 80 series. I have blown two braided hoses for example. Do I HAVE to have lines from a hydraulic shop made?.
