Can some please help me? I had a humming coming from the front of my truck for about the past year. I had a bad leak from the front end of my truck from birfield & I had repaired since then but I was told that the since i drove it for so long it caused something to start making the humming sound. Do anyone things using Mobil 1 Synthetic Gear Lubricant LS 75W-140 will help with the noise. If not what is making this noise so I can get it repaired.

Maybe it was similiar to this? http://www.knplogic.co.uk/are_u_mad.html :D

Only thing that really comes to mind is front drive shaft. Do you have a lift on it? If so, how much and did you mod the dshaft?

That was too funny. :)

Let's see... I had a problem in the front of my truck, can anyone tell me exactly what's wrong?

Maybe we should of asked what exactly was the musical tune that it was humming?

land is that a pretty big job?
montel, it's not a big job, but can be intimidating at first.

Can you give us any more information? Is there any vibrations at all, certain speeds? Does this only happen at specific times etc?

It make the sound only when accelerating only. Anything over 30 mph. It's not as loud when going over 75 mph but it gets loud again anything over 90 mph. I know the sound is coming from the front end I just can't tell from where from. A birfield total job was done less than 6 months ago & the sound was there then & is still there now. I guess there is a vibration because when you touch the hi/low stick it is vibrating & it humming all day everyday.

I think there's more information here than you all realize. Let me help decode:

...slight confusion here, but this next sentence clears it all up

What brand of belts do you have installed? I noticed mine started whirring/whining, whatever when I replaced my alt. and AC belts with non-Toyota. Gates to be exact, ie. NAPA.

Does it sound like a faint/distant tamborine or sleigh bells or is it actually a low "hum". Mine does the former.

Possibly front diff bearings. Likelihood increases if truck was operated for significant period of time low on gear oil. Go to Randy's Ring and Pinion website, somewhere on the tech page he has posted descriptions of the various different sounds that worn diffs make.

If you have the center diff lock switch, I'd be tempted to temporarily remove the front driveshaft engage the cdl and drive it for a day to see if it disapears. Rich's comment about the diff makes sense, but I'm still thinking front d-shaft.
