My hubs won't lock and the passenger side won't even turn. I have torn them apart and reassembled them probably 10 times. When I tried to reassemble the passenger side something just didn't seem right but I did everything according to the FSM. The driver side turns freely and reassembled easily but it won't lock either. What is going on here?

Ok well after reading a thread I know the driver side is built properly. I think the passenger side spring keeps popping out of place. So if one hub doesn't lock properly would that mean the other would not lock as well? When I turned my driveshaft neither of the hubs turned but my driver side is properly assembled.

it could be your spring isnt in the hub properly on the one side. also someties the grease slows the hub gear from sliding into place right away. had that happen before.

one hub isnt dependant on the other for engagement of itself, you do need both to engage to get power to the front though.

thry getting the hubs warm first i.e. driving it around. to decrease the viscosity of the grease, then turn in the hubs and drive it a bit more and see if this helps.

Their already lightly greased, I very gentle with the grease I know a lot goes a long way. I think the tabs that hold the clutch to the body are bad and when I turn it the spring pops out of place.

Take off the cover and hold it in your palm with the gear part at the end of the spring held between your thumb and forefinger and twist the dial from free to lock. Does it expand out? Does it pull back when you go back to free? Keep the gear part from twisting with the dial, it should stay static with the outside of the cover.

How do you know neither of the hubs turned? If only one hub is locked and the other is unlocked, turning the driveshaft will probably only turn the axle shaft associated with the unlocked hub. Unless you have a locking differential, which I am guessing you don't. With an open differential, the power from the drive shaft is going to go to the axle that is easiest to turn--that is the one that is unlocked. If the passenger side is not build properly, take it apart and try again to get it correct.

I don't know if it matters, but It think it does because I saw it on here recently....the springs are symmetrical(Not equal in space or shape) and I believe the side that goes down is the side that has the least space between the springs.

Do a search. Hope this helps.

Found the link I was talking about:
