Greeting all, is there any body here to give me their real life feedback about the Dobinson or Terrain Tamer kits for their Landcruiser Troopy please?
Im after a suspension upgrade kit set for my touring overlander Troopy VDJ78 and not sure whats pros and cons to consider for Dobinson and Terrain Tamer kit, it will carry constant heavy load for my overland trips all the time to other continents and remote countries?
(Im just after standard lift, max 50mm with simple mono tube or twin tube shocks, on skinny tires)

I do appreciate if any one experienced any issue with these two brands and let me know to be aware of them.

Hello,

Get a Dobinsons kit and do not look back.

Not a troopy but the Dobinson 60mm lift works well on my 91 LJ77. But, it has seen only mild wheeling and no real heavy weight for any extended time

Initially I did not reply to this thread, as I have a mixed bag of Dobinson's, OME, SLEE, Terrain-Tamer (for the little accessory bits like stabilizer bar drops)

I went with Dobinson coils in front, OME leafs in the back. OME shocks all round. So far the ride has been phenomenal. Because I was planning to have an ARB and winch in front, I went with the higher load coils (+50 or 80kgs, not sure exactly)

For the rears, just try to work out how much extra static weight and gear that will always be in the cruiser and order the leafs accordingly. Have you looked into the new parabolic leaf springs? These kind of came out right after I had ordered all my stuff. There are a couple of folks here that have tried them out. (@coldtaco is one I believe) They may have some input now that they have run them for a while.

If you are like me, my load is minimal in the back and only occasionally do I have it loaded right up for trips, or with all my gear for search and rescue so I went with standard leafs, and decided if I need to I can always install a set of air bags in the back. IMHO, if you have changing loads this is the way to go. This way you do not have a rough ride when empty and you have the extra support when you are loaded up.

It truly is hard to make the perfect choice without trying out various methods and setups/brands. My hope is whatever choice you do go with, you are happy with it. You already proved you have good judgement by buying a land cruiser after all...
