I am not a Mac guy but it is my understanding that Techstream must run in Windows OS on your Mac and then the Windows environment will recognize the cable. But a Mac person will need to confirm that.
I was able to get it working on a macbook... once. don't know if it was a cable issue or illiteracy with the VM but could never get it to connect properly after that first attempt. There are scanners available now that will read AHC pressures for around $100, IIRC, I ended up springing for a more expensive (more universal) diagnostic tool because I've got some more in-depth issues to deal with on other vehicles as well. Got this for just under $400 ($367 before tax) when it was on sale a few weeks back. Even having to do a system update over wifi when I first turned it on, I was connected and reading pressures within 5 minutes. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BTBQ1NR4?tag=ihco-20

My wife was a bit pissed off at me when we got back from our camping trip and I told her I didn't want to unload the car before I could get pressure readings while fully loaded, and then proceeded to wrestle with techstream trying to get it to connect for 2 hours before giving up.

Has anyone else had trouble recently with your virtualbox/techstream? I used it a couple months ago with no problems. I now get the error message below. I reinstalled Virtualbox and redownloaded Techstream, but the problem persists.

It would probably be helpful to mention what your base OS is. Windows 11? Mac?

I got techstream fully working on my 06 lx470 but the only issue I’m having is its reading all the powertrain modules such as engine and cruise control but it’s not reading anything else and gives an error with communication. Would it be the cable I bought is not good enough. Does anyone have any good modern Amazon or eBay cable recommendations? The one I bought is linked. Any help would be great I really just need to read ahc pressures.

Is there a solution to the "Software is out of date" issue with techstream. this was a fresh installation, all went well until I tried to connect to vehicle
I set the date on my laptop to the year 2022, so that it wouldn't complain about it being 'after 2023' (which was the out-of-date message I got). I wasn't, however, able to program new keys with Techstream - that area was grayed out and unavailable.

Tks, I backdated mine to the year it was installed, but still got the message, even after uninstalling it all, and reinstalling it all from scratch, so my reconning is that it plants a file somewhere,,with the out of date message, nothing changes.
I have formatted the hdd and am going to have another crack at a clean install. Fingers crossed ;-)

@Ptrott - I downloaded my copy of TS several years ago - can you post the site location where you downloaded your latest/newest, in case there's a newer one I don't have?

Thanks - Steve

Hey guys, I'm in a bit of a pickle. My current laptop that I use is a work laptop and I cannot really download anything onto it. I have an old Windows 7 laptop where I want to download Techstream onto NATIVELY.

Does anyone have a link or a download for the software to run on a Windows 7 PC? Not looking to install a VM and then run TS ontop of it as the old laptop is well... kinda slow but it's not connected to the internet so that's a good thing

There is a link in this thread. Download it and see if it installs and runs - Techstream - Alternative to Other Thread - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/techstream-alternative-to-other-thread.1373789/

Hey guys. Just getting into this. Been looking through this thread to choose which cable to get. Gemini is telling me to choose this one "The Budget Choice: Mini-VCI J2534 (Firmware v2.0.4). * Warning: Avoid the cheaper v1.4.1 firmware cables; they often fail to connect to the AHC (Active Height Control) or ECU on 100-series trucks. Look specifically for "Firmware 2.0.4" in the listing." I've found one on Ali Express "MINI VCI V2.0.4 Real Firmware SW V16.00.017 For Toyota TIS Techstream FTDI FT232RL Chip j2534 MINI-VCI HW 2.0.4 Multi-Language".. Am I on the right track?

Or go for this one on Amazon
"Mini Vci J2534 Cable Standard Obd2 Communication Interface for TIS Techstream V17 V18 Toyota Lexus Scion OBD2 Scanner Diagnostic USB Vehicle Scan Tool" from CTobd? Thanks in advance.

The Mini Vci J2534 is what I got. First one was a dud, second one works great. Took a minute to figure everything out though.

Sorry about the delay. I don't have a link, and all I can remember is that it was a Prado forum / page. I didn't persist with the V18 as V12 covers my 2006 cruiser.

Are you using a mac? If so, there is a folder kind of hidden. To remove it completely:
  1. Find "Go" on the menu on the top of your desktop.
  2. Click "Go" and hold the option key to display "Library".
  3. It takes you to your user folder, where you can see a folder called VirtualBox VMs.
  4. Delete the whole folder before you reinstall VirtualBox and Techstream.
I did this clean installation to remove the software expiration error. Will see how long it goes.

All sorted, thanks

Hey, did you get this sorted? Having the same issue. Cheers
Hope I'm not too late to answer but you have to set your virtual machine date to something like 2023.
This is true for everyone, regardless of using VirtualBox (Win, Linux) or UTM (macOS).
  1. Stop and delete the current virtual machine, especially if you fiddled with TechStream, tried to register it, etc.
  2. Reinitialize the machine
  3. Prevent your virtual machine form synchronizing date/time with the host operating system (what's running on your laptop)
    1. This way the virtual machine won't reset the date/time immediately after you change them
    2. On your laptop open a terminal or powershell or CMD and run: VBoxManage setextradata "VM name" "VBoxInternal/Devices/VMMDev/0/Config/GetHostTimeDisabled" 1
      1. Here's a link from the official VirtualBox forum, if you don't trust randomly pasting this.
      2. Works only for VirtualBox but I am sure you can find the alternative for UTM
    3. On the Windows XP virtual machine: change the year to 2022 (or earlier) from the start bar (or from Control Panel)
    4. Restart the virtual machine
    5. Verify the date once the machine restarts
  4. Continue with registration (verify your interface is identified, open TechStream, paste the registration key)
Some people are facing problems copying the registration key and pasting it into TechStream -- that happens because your Windows computer is confused. It doesn't know if you're running copy-paste (Ctrl+C - Ctrl+V) on the laptop itself, or inside the Windows XP virtual machine, so it does nothing.

Try this:
  1. Select the registration key form the text file
  2. Right click and then click "Copy"
  3. Go to TechStream setup
  4. Right click into the registration key text box and click "Paste"
Good luck everyone, hope it helps!

Did you buy, find it's a good mini VCI and the FW 2.0.4?
