This 75-page thread has links to a VM build of TechStream and lots of discussions on how to set it up. I thought I'd post an alternative that I have used that is basically downloading and activating the software like a normal program.

On the MHH Auto forums, there is a user named Autokent who provides download links and free keys for Techstream if you follow his forum instructions to give likes and reputation.
Autokent has branched out on his own and now offers the keys for a small fee if you register on Autokent.net. A site demo is here. This link explains it - you'll see this guy is all over the forum for years. The MHH forum site is not free to post on. I can't remember how much it costs to join but Google says $60. To register on the Autokent site was $15.

If you want to download a full version and activate it using Autokent's keys, you need to download V18 here. Sign up for his page, send him the code and get the keys. Note follow the example in the demo and activate all the regions. If your computer changes even a little bit, you might need a new key if you try to use another region (just happened to me on V16 which is why I went back to Autokent and upgraded to V18).

I don't have any information on cables. I was doing this on a brand new truck so I bought the official Mongoose cable.

I just thought I'd post an alternative that I found to be easy to use.

Doesn't sound very stable if any changes happen and you have to redo everything. Can you go online with his version? Feels like the Amazon version I used that was $40 and included the cable is still a better solution.

Maybe I oversold it. As long as it is activated, it will not require new activation unless the hardware changes. This would be the same scenario if you had Techstream from Toyota. In my case, I believe because of Win10 software updates, when I tried to activate the "other' region, my key didn't work. The already activated US version remained working fine. You can go online, but you need a separate TIS subscription to access that data.

People who sell Techstream keys have often downloaded free key generators from illegal websites and are making easy money from them. There is one website where I got banned. On that site, you need 15 posts or 15 likes to download the key generator. I asked in a post if members could give me 15 likes, and the cocky admin banned me. That guy was clearly on a power trip.

Nearly any version of TechStream can be found “cracked” already. No need for this forum nonsense. I have used varying versions from 14 to 18 for US and Global region vehicles.

These “cracked” versions just extend the license period out to 5000 days or remove it altogether.

I have had luck running it on both Windows XP and Windows 11 natively.

Which tool did you get off of Amazon? I’m looking to go with one of these all in one solutions, but there are several to choose from and I’m not sure where to start. Thanks.

I’m just trying to help those who are unable to connect to their car even after installing Techstream with a legitimate key.
The proper way to install any version of Techstream (except the Virtual Machine version) is to plug your Mini VCI cable into the laptop’s USB port before installing Techstream. (You do not need to plug the cable into your car)
After installation, if you are still unable to communicate with your car, it means you need to install the X-Horse driver.
X-Horse provides two types of drivers:
One for 32-bit operating systems (Windows 10 or 11)
One for 64-bit operating systems (Windows 10 or 11)
The 32-bit driver can be installed automatically by double-clicking the .MSI (Microsoft Software Installer) file.
The 64-bit driver must be installed manually.
If you don’t know how to manually install a driver in Windows, I recommend searching YouTube for “how to manually install a driver in Windows.”
The 64-bit executable driver made by Autokent is automatically deleted by Windows. I believe this may be because it does not have a Microsoft certificate, or possibly because the executable contains suspicious code. To avoid this issue, I have extracted the 64-bit driver folder from Autokent’s software.
Here is the link to both the 64-bit and 32-bit drivers in a Google Driver Folder
After downloading the 64-bit driver ZIP file, unzip it first, then install the driver using the Device Manager option in Windows.

Trying to download V18 myself and curious if anyone has gone through the process with MHH auto? Seems like it's $30 but doesn't seem terribly complicated after. Thanks!

That's how I got my first registration but if you look at the start of the thread, you can get it a bit cheaper by going through Autokent directly. He's the one that will provide the codes on MHH Auto for 'free' but of course you have to pay the $30 to get registered. I decided I wanted the ability to easily add them myself and so went the direct route.

Thanks for this! Hopefully can get this up and running. We'll see :)

Downloading and installing is the easiest thing. When you receive the registration codes, enable all regions in case you need another region later. The only thing people have trouble with is the cable. I went with the Toyota-approved mongoose. Pricy, but I was going to use it on a brand new car, so I figured a couple of hundred bucks was worth it for peace of mind.

I clicked on the link shown above V18 here, which landed me on the page that I show below. What is this gobbly gook? :)What am i suppose to do next?

I bought a new Win 11 laptop and wanting to install it as my XP machine is dreadfully slow.

Thanks for the handholding!

If I recall correctly, I'm pretty sure it is the down arrow button in the upper right.

I know this is trivial to most of y'all but I just wanted to make sure my brand new laptop will be ok after doing the steps. Thank you.

Nothing can be guaranteed 100% when you are sailing the high seas, but this is a good source. Because it isn't cracked like other versions floating out there, it doesn't trigger virus scanners which is a good thing. This appears to be the full, unmolested software that required activation, which is why you need the key.

ok, i'll rely on your judgement, thanks again.

Just to comment-i downloaded and still have my laptop! Seems legit though haven't cracked it open yet. More later!

Does anyone know where to download that keygen for v18? I mean not a specific key for one computer, but the key generator. I see it was uploaded on AutoGMT, but the download is locked behind 15 posts+15 likes requirement, which is quite ridiculous. Everyone seems to be trying to make money from generating these keys, but perhaps if someone has the keygen, we could post it with a public download link for everyone to use?
