Should seem a simple enough procedure? But trying to pull what feels like a plastic cover over the mount points I feel like I'm about to break something. What is the proper procedure?

At each end is a "cap". Gotta pop those off. I found it easier (sorta) to stand on the ground. Reach up, and grab and pull upward and towards the inside of the truck. Dunno if it makes sense.
There are huge t screws under there. Uhhh forgot what size. I think it's T25 or something. Undo all those and the feet should slide right off. You will have to replace the factory bolts with shorter ones, as they will stik out of the roof a good 1 inch.

Id personally take it to the shop!
Why? It's easy to remove... and can't possibly put it back together wrong.
Oh, Scott, i used a small flat head screw driver to pry my caps off at first. Do it on the inside. I stuck the screw driver on the outside, now you can see little pry marks everywhere. Dam
and another dam, I need to take mine off. I slammed mine into a 6'6 clearance tube going into a garage.... Red and white paint everywhere! And it got the wing! Dam x3!!

Once ya get one (~17 minutes of cussin'), the others come right off for ya' (~90 second each...
