ive been dreaming about my ultimate fj62 that i will complete in 10 years. Here is one of the questions that has been bugging me. How do you make an fj62 go slower? LOL

I know most people are trying to get the tractor engine to move them faster down the road but if a truck is strictly offroad what do you put in it?

marlin crawler has the well known toybox but from what ive seen it will not go in an fj62.
the orion transfer case will never come out and i dont think it will go in an fj62 either.

so what do you guys do to make the fj62 go slower?

I think you can order low range transfer case gears in any ratio you want. Euclid just rebuilt his xfer and didn't find out about it till he had it reinstalled. I think its an oz comp that does it.

Or you could just ride around with the ebrake on :flipoff2:

BIG tires.

Do the opposite for crawl ratio...

You can do the Marks of Aus t/c gears. Other than that There is not a whole lot you can do at this time.

One advantage you have is the auto tranny. That right there gives you around a 2:1 gearing because of the torque converter putting you around 60:1 which is good. Put 4:88's or 5:29's in the diffs and you'll be a bit better.

^ Yes, but trying to turn them would make you go REALLY slow.

Ok, REALLY small tires would be better, and not break your birfs.

thanks guys. i havent heard of that aus company before but i will deffinitely remember them. do 42" iroks sound BIG enough?

Certainly large enough to find where every weak link in the chain is!!!

I am looking into 5.29 gears for my HJ61. With 38's and a FF rear end I think they will be plenty strong and get my RPMs into a more useful range with the auto.

I hope

just drive up a hill...

...start slow hit 4.88s and some bigger tires if not slow enough add a rock box

4.88s are in the making and with the 35s im spinning in know its going to be slooooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwww

okay so the plan if anyone wants to know...

im gonna skip breaking the toy axles and go ahead and upgrade to dynatrac pro rock 60s so no broken axles. Im also will be getting new beefy driveshafts and ujoints. i would be adding an external tranmission cooler and hydrolic assist. and ditching leaf springs and the rear half of the truck for tube fox air shocks four link etc etc... well you know all the good stuff :D

but like i said... in ten years i will tackle this project. I figure i will have the funds by then, the knowledge, the skills, and the tools.

BTW i plan on keeping my current fj62 as is and getting a second fj62 strictly for the rocks and this project

I LOVE CRUISERS! (especially 60 series :D )

Just a thought Thomas-for just a bit of time and $ you could do a SOA to your 62 and have a ton of fun wheeling that beast as is. When you go to the big Dynatrac's you will need to do an SOA anyway, so you won't be wasteing your time. Obviously, you can spend as much as you want, but if you SOA your 62, get some 35's and a locker or two, you will be able to tackle almost any trail you want. Fully set up, those Dynatracs are $6000 EACH. You can have a lot of fun in the meantime, and you may find you don't need those big axles. The Toyota stuff is actually pretty good especially if you keep your tire choice reasonable, and get some upgraded birfs from Bobby Long.

if I'm not mistaken, the toybox WILL go in a 62....

3B swap!
Put a diesel in and your idle speed drops about 200 RPM. :)

cruiserdrew-
that is not a definite plan. at the rate they are coming out with upgrades for toy axles i may end up sticking with them and a little smaller tire. the only reason im thinking about going all out with the axles is because i already busted a birfield with 33s locked. im not very impressed with that. i would go soa now but id rather stick to how my truck is now plus my ultimate 62 will be a second truck in the driveway. i consider my truck right now pretty tough and i can go down a lot of trails. i want to build up more experience with the smaller tires before i go big. plus on my ultimate 62 i dont think im going to have any leaf springs.

TMAN_FJ60-
From Marlins website
ToyBox FJ40/FJ60 Dual Crawler

Now we have a dual crawler for your FJ40 and FJ60. Both 2.28 and 4.70 ratios. Applications include SM420, SM465, H41, H42, 3 & 4 speed Land Cruiser transfer cases.
i dont see fj62 or my auto transmission. is there an adapter or something?

As of now, us fj62 owners are out of luck. The Oz gears will not fit the fj62 auto tranny....found on SOR

"Low Range Transfercase Gear Set-1.08 high ratio (8% underdrive) and 3.05 low ratio (68% reduction)-Fits 4/86-1/90 with 38mm idler shaft-Manual transmissions ONLY, does NOT work with automatic transmissions"

Marlin does not have anything compatible with the fj62 auto either....unless something has changed recently...

If anyone knows of or has seen some kind of extra gearing for and FJ62 with the STOCK AUTO and STOCK T-CASE, plz let us know!!!
