So I want to use a USB drive to store map files. I can't figure out how to make the HU (mine is an EC Offroad 16" for 2013 LC) see the flash drive and use it for the storage loaction. The file manager app only seems to show the folders on the build in flash drive. I also don't see a way within the various nav apps I have to direct where file downloads go. It just seems to default to the built in flash drive location. Anyone one done this? Hey @Romer I'd guess you have done this. Any thoughts?

I plug it in go to file manager and it appears on the left. I select it and copied my files to a memory folder on the unit and remove my flash drive

Oh. I was hoping to just keep the files on the usb drive and have the apps run off it. That way I could just keep all my map files in one place and now worry about storage capacity (I have a 1TB usb).

They don't take much room, but your choice. On my Tesla unit I have my entire music collection, several movies, GPS files and other misc things

But you said you can't see the USB drive in the file manager. I had that happen and I didnt have the connector mated right I found out

Initially it didn’t recognize the usb drive but that was because it needed to be formatted. I got that working and can see it in file manager.

The high res OnX files are large and I like to have them for the whole area I’m going to. I was also wanting to download detailed Google maps for entire states just so I had them and would not have to rely on Wi-Fi. Colorado, Kansas, and Missouri was 40 something gig. Gaia seems to be a lot better wrt file size.

Can anyone tell me how to tell where downloaded files go on the Tesla style HUs? I know this has to be a really stupid question but after downloading maps, I've looked in the file folders and I see any new files or large files. I can't tell where they are going.

Depends on the app you’re using. For Google Maps they go into a path like:

data/data/com.google.android.apps/maps/files

Regarding using a USB drive, make sure it’s formatted as FAT32 as these units don’t typically support much else.
