How to disassemble fog light housings?

I've got my housings out so I can retrofit with some LED light pods.

Is this a "slow and steady" procedure to get the two halves separated? It feels like I'm going to crack all this plastic as I'm trying to gently pry the black up/off of the silver (pic below). Is there a trick to this? I don't want to destroy these which is what it feels like I'm going to do if I apply any reasonable pressure......thx guys.

Only way to know is to force it! If it works, great! If it breaks, you know not to do that, and you can have mine that I took off to put in my Diode Dynamics LED Pods.

I attempted the same thing a couple of weeks ago, couldn't get it to separate so I used a dremel to cut the lens cover right off!

Bake at 275° in 5 minute intervals then pry apart while the butyl is soft.
