I have searched, but not really what I need. Need insulation under the rig not inside on the floor board.

I am tired of my foot / shoe almost melting especially since summer is coming and it is down right uncomfortable and stinky to wear sandals and try to keep my foot from touching the tranny hump. I need to insulate but I do not want to put it on the inside and have to cover it with carpet. Too easy for our rigs to hold moisture and rust with carpet.

So I need to figure out how and what type of reflective insulation to use that will stick to the bottom of the body under the front floor-boards. I have no idea if the insulation has an adhesive that will hold it in place or riveted in place.

What type and brand has been used in the past that has been successful. It looks like a PITA to get the insulation between the body and drive train so I want something that will stay and only do it once.

I will also wrap my headers and exhaust. What is the best way to do this with everything still in the rig? Pictures of how to do it would be great.

I don't have a cat on my 73, just headers and a muffler out back. Someone has to have figured out a way to insulate the rig without having to put carpet down.

I installed the heat shield from Toyota years ago. That helped with the overall heat buildup. At the same time I replace the exhaust system from the exhaust manifold back with all OEM parts. That helped alot since I was removing a header. Plus the fact that the exhaust pipe running fropm the exhaust manifold to the muffler ran under the skid plate. But that didn't late too long before it was crushed. I routed back above the skid plate which is hard to do with a PTO, but it works. It help warm up the oil in the transfer case:rolleyes: With the stock setup it was by far the coolest inside cab. I don't think the muffler shield is available any more:frown: that really helps with the heat behind the driver's seat

Howdy! Most, but not all, of the heat and sound insulating materials are designed to be inside the cab. I would think that the ones on the outside would trap dirt, mud, moiture; just like the problem on the inside. Even metal heat shields will trap some crap, but they would be far easier to clean out at the car wash. Obviously, space can be a problem, but I have seen some home grown heat shields that were pretty nice, and effective. John
