so I bought a vacuum gauge and ran the engine. It shows nothing wrong and no leaks. It sits at 18 when idle and drops to 2 and slowly back when I give it gas. Just as the article says about reading a vac gauge. So nothing wrong with the engine. I could adjust the timing to have the vac sit at 21 and see if that helps, but any more and I will kill my gas mileage.
Looks like, even though this is the original carb on my 73, since I put in the 60 series ignition, I might need a larger jet.
