so I bought a vacuum gauge and ran the engine. It shows nothing wrong and no leaks. It sits at 18 when idle and drops to 2 and slowly back when I give it gas. Just as the article says about reading a vac gauge. So nothing wrong with the engine. I could adjust the timing to have the vac sit at 21 and see if that helps, but any more and I will kill my gas mileage.

Looks like, even though this is the original carb on my 73, since I put in the 60 series ignition, I might need a larger jet.

Yeah go figure. Well the good part is, I have two new gauges under my dash, a new white vac gauge and had to replace my volt gauge to mac since my other one was black.

Even driving around the gauge was spot on for showing no leaks. Even adjusted my timing until it was closer to 20 at idle. Only time I get a tiny engine noise is if I shift too soon into 3rd and lug the engine and get the littelist of pings.

Vacuum readings sound pretty perfect, there's probly a post somewhere on how to time by vacuum, but I think you figgered it out. (time to highest vac, then retard an inch or two). Does it ping in 4th, up a slight incline?

only 3 gears. I get a slight ping if I shift into 3rd going too slow. But not when cruising or at normal shifting points. Sound about right?

Sounds perfect. Slight ping on occasion is exactly right. As I understand it.

Because POSER said so :) and I have already cleaned I out. I just wish that I did not have to take apart and drain the gas to get to the jets.
