Have an issue with one of my new Falken Wildpeak AT3W tires. The sidewall seems to have split, possibly after hitting a pothole last night while headed up to South Lake Tahoe. My spare is the same size, but it's off my last set of 285 duratacs, so it's less diameter and a different tread pattern. Would driving on this spare be detrimental to my drivetrain? I've got 75 miles distance to home, highway 50.
I went to Les Schwab to get their opinion on the sidewall compromise. Said it's deep but not into the threads of the carcass. They will not touch anything, they'll only sell me 4 new tires because of liability of course.
My idea is this since the tire was on front left. Swap it to the rear, drive to Discount in Carson City 25 miles away. Trade in my 4 Falkens under warranty and buy 4 new tires of whatever they have in stock. next week go to Discount and use the 30day trial warranty saying I didn't like them, then get my Falkens back - but 5 of them this time so this doesn't happen again.
Whatcha think?
