Hey guys I'm going to take the cruiser in to have the rear hatch surface rust fixed up, but the shop hasn't done any cruiser work before and are worried about the gasket and the window. For the record no one around here has done cruiser work :) And the window has to come out as the rust is coming out from under the gasket, plus a little bubbling.

when pulling the rear glass, can you reuse the gasket? toyodiy is listing at 158, I'm sure Dan will clock in much lower but still.

yes, even with major rust, the gasket is durable. heres some recent pics of the rust that i had to deal with. with it this bad, the door needs to be replaced but its a trail rig so i sanded it down and sprayed some rust inhibitor on it and put the glass back in. its an easy job

if its as bad as mine, theres nothing that shop can do but what i did and put some sealent on it. in other words its kind of waiste of money to have a shop even look at it.

Any window installer reuses these. It is not cut or damaged. Any car that uses these is done pretty much the same way.

What kind of sealent would be good to seal the cleaned up cancer /rust spot ? Reg spray paint ? I plan on putting bed liner paint on the whole rig would that be to thick of paint ?

check your local auto parts store for window sealant. i used a flap wheel to sand the loose rust off. but if i got rid of all the rust, i would of have lost my window seal, lol. so i just sprayed it with rust inhibitor and put the seal back on. on the outside of the window where there is rust damage, i flapped it down and bondoed it and then painted the rear door.

and yes, if you the bed liner paint you are talking about is like a rhino line, that won't work. way too thick. i am not an expert in rust because i am west coast guy. maybe some east coast guys can post up about it.

I'm about to tackle removing the rear glass to cover up some rust before I monstaline....how hard is removing and reinstalling the glass? The FSM doesn't go into great detail.
