Hi folks.
This is Moe from the 80s section. I found this 2UZ-FE. Unused. Brand new with most of the hoses and a harness with ECU at a local repair shop. They said they got it from a costumer. They are asking 1800 bucks for it. What do you think? Deal or no deal.

Depends on what you are going to do with it, and if it will work for that application.
The 2UZ-FE is a pretty durable engine; the engines in the 100-series LCs and tundras don't often need to be replaced.

Were you thinking of shoehorning the V8 into an 80-series?
Are there adapters available for this?
Would you also need a A343 or similar transmission?

The worth of the engine depends on what you plan to do with it.
If you really need a disembodied 2UZ-FE then it is probably a good deal.

If you are gonna put the engine in the corner of your garage and wait for an application, then not so much.

Thanks for your replies. As far as have gathered from the shop the engine was bought from toyota years ago by a guy who wanted to do a conversion and never followed it through. Ended up trading it with the shop for services on other vehicles. The engine was never mounted on a vehicle before. It looked brand new to me when i looked at it yesterday. No sign on usage whatsoever. I inspected the engine for any indicators of year or application but found nothing specific. The engine had the intake manifold exposed i.e. no plastic shield on the top of it.

Regarding the question about a possible transplant into an 80s bay. Yes. It has been done successfully. Using a custom adapter i think with stock FZJ80 tranny. Check out christo from sleeoffroad. He'd done the conversion professionally.

Price wise. Is it still a good deal. I know for a fact that similar condition 1FZ-FE would be really expensive to buy if it was ever existed in such conditions (brand new) ...

Thanks

Isn't it easier to type "100" or "LC/LX" vs "2UZ-FE"?

He is talking about the motor.

If indeed it a 0 miles motor then it is a good deal. Using it for a 80 swap would depend on if it was a 4Runner/Tundra/Sequoia motor or a LC motor.

AFIKW you can not buy complete engines from Toyota. So I would be a little skeptical on origin of the engine. That engine new from Toyota is probably close to $10k if not more.

While this won't be popular here, I'd swap in a Gen 3 or 4 GM v8 due to complete swap kits available and the ease of wiring them in. They are great motors, more powerful with better fuel mileage than the 4.7 and novack has the swaps down to a science.

That's what I'm talking about.

If you really needed a 2UZ-FE without a truck, then it is a good deal.
But most of the trucks that came with this engine are still going strong.

I have not heard of anyone ever replacing a 2UZ-FE.
(except that Canadian guy who wanted a diesel:meh:)

Maybe check on the FJ40 or 55 forums to see if anyone wants to swap it into an older vehicle....

Whether or not it's a good deal depends entirely on what you plan to use it for.

It's a great deal on a smooth reliable thirsty Toyota V8.
But it would make a very expensive paperweight.

I agree with the prior two post. My point was, if I can buy something worth $12K for $2K, I'll do it all day long, 'cause, even if I can only sell it for $6K, it was probably worth my time . . . and I'll make decent $$.

A 2UZ in a FJ40 would be a dream.

Thanks for your replies. I think I am ready to pull the trigger on this purchase.

Christo, I appreciate your response here and share you your skepticism :meh: But to me ( not an expert in any way ) this motor did indeed looked like it had 0 miles on it. No visual signs of it being mounted, ran, connected to anything. It's a little dusty but no scraches, rust, heat marks, fitting marks, cooked oil like you would find in any engine that was ever ran up to operational temps. ( I even used a tellescopic mag with light to probe the inside of motor though multiple openings and ports and found no residuals /contaminations signs of motion effects nor frection.

Regarding a possible transpant into an 80 for example, I simple don't know how to tell which application or vehicle this motor was setup for originally. But I have a couple of pics of this engine here and hopefully someone can determain the answer. Sorry for the low quality pics . cell phone.

Thanks

That is not a LC motor, so it can be 4Runner, Tundra or Sequoia. You might be able to tell if you can figure what harness it has, or ECU.

So, if it's not an LC application, is it still transplantable into a late model 80 ? Also, Is there a way to tell if it was a VVT-i or non VVT-i, actually, let me rephrase that? Is the VVT-i considered a factor in possible 80 swaps?

I'll try to coordinate with the shop to have a second, more detailed look at the motor, it might be diffecult because of the holidays now. But I will try, this time without my 2 year old being with me screaming his head off trying to steal my phone!!!

Thanks!
