Hi,

I am looking to seel a 2006 Land Cruiser. Can anyone tell me what a fair asking price would be for this vehicle?

2006 ToyotaLand Cruiser / 100 Series

Purchased: 12/31/2006
Miles 8,982
Exterior Color: Thunder Cloud Metallic – (Pewter)
Interior Color: Stone – (Grey)
Condition: New Condition – (Excellent with No Damage or Wear)

This is my Wife’s vehicle and it is basically a brand new, 2006 Land Cruiser / 100 Series. The exterior color is Thunder Cloud Metallic (pewter), and the interior is Stone (grey). We are moving back to California at the end of the summer, and she wants to buy a convertible.

The vehicle has never been driven off-road. I really do not want to sell this vehicle, but I have an 1997 80 Series Land Cruiser that I use a Daily Driver. The 80 Series is nowhere near as comfortable or luxurious as the 100 Series, but economics ... and what my wife wants ... wins in this situation. Here are some more information about the vehicle.

wow! I take it you put some serious thinking into this cuz you stand to lose a bundle...

I don't think MSRP is too useful for realistic numbers.

If I were looking for a near new used truck, I'd reason invoice plus 1000 (a reasonable purchase price) minus something like $7K or so for the mileage and uncertainty.

I'd check going rates on eBay and look up blue book, if available, at kbb.com and nada.com.

I want to see a picture of your wife. Any husband that buys his wife a new LC with all the extras including an extended warranty and then sells it 6 months later because she "wants" a convertable now. She must be a 10+++ or someone has a really good trust fund. :)

Thanks for the responses so far. I am seeing between 52k and 56k for a vehicle equipped like this without an extended warranty and twice the mileage from dealers in my area.

I would like to sell it in that price range....and I think I can get more than 45K for it as someone suggested here....or at least I think I can...:)

Do you think between 52k and 56K with all of the options plus the 7 year warranty is unreasonable?

Rich

Hi,

Yes, she gets her way pretty much...but it is really my fault in a way. She used to keep her cars for at least 6 years before she met me. I have a bad car buying / selling habit...and she seems to have picked this up from me....so I can;t blame her totally.

However, while I sell my cars VERY quickly, I do tend to hold on to my Land Cruisers for at least 4 to 5 years...on average.

She is hot...5'8" tall, 120lbs, really nice long legs, very flat toned tummy, belly button ring, and in general the body of a 20 year old...plus she is a great gal. Trust me, I date a LOT of women, or should I say Phsycho babes, before I chose this one.

I did buy the vehicle right...so I actually don't think I will lose very much at all on the transaction....at least I hope so anyway..:)

good for you! Most folks would lose something like $4K of taxes and another $5-8K of depreciation probably. A locked 80's worth for 6 mos of ownership of a new 100... Yikes!

I hope you're right. BTW, I just checked Ebay and there are a couple there similarly equipped that went for around $48K. So maybe my initial estimate was a bit low.

Good luck!

I paid 56k out the door for my '06 new and it's the exact same car you have. It had 3 miles on it. I'd be suprised if you got that much for it. Don't they say you can take 20% off as soon as you drive it off the lot? Hope I'm wrong but the few times I've seen some one (or done it myself) sell a car with-in the first few years of ownership, they've lost their shirts.

Maybe you should keep the 100, sell the 80, then LEASE a convertable so you're wife can change her mind every three years?

put it on ebay, auto trader and cars.com. Probable cost you about 150.00-200.00 in fees. get the pictures and the features, and make sure you take the really important pictures. Not the crap some of those idiots take. Being on here should help you understand what is important. I have been looking for a while and I have been out bid on a few 06's with that exact description. But none of them were for more than 52K with the warrenty. There are still six new 06 Thunderclouds within the last month for around 50K. I am sure you could get more than 45k for it. But get it on there quick, the closer you get to the 08, the worse your value will drop and with gas prices increasing I have seen many dealers willing to take a loss to get these expensive cars off thier lot loans. California Prices are some of the cheapest in the country. I would not wait to sell it there. Very High gas prices and an excess of new 06's still on the lot. I wish you the best.

Side note: In a situation like this it make benefit you to induce a buyer. Instead of selling in the 40's start the bidding say mid fifties expecting to come down to as much as 48/49K. But throw in a List Price 50 inch Flat Screen that you found on sale. Might cost you 1,500.00 to 2,500.00 but the value that you create can be valueable. My uncle uses this tool to sell high end used cars to young guys. Sold an LX470 for almost list because of tv he bought for 1,800.00 Create value and get your money back.

I recall a previous post of yours sharing how you purchased this truck for dead tissue (around $15000 off MSRP). Since you can pick up a new zero-miles '07 TLC easily for at least $10k off with factory-to-dealer money you may try asking for that same $15k off MSRP including the extended warranty. If no takers go down from there.

This thread is worthless without pics! :)

I think in LA, you can get a new LC for about $55K. There are mega dealers there that are required to buy x units of each vehicle from Toyota, no matter how few they sell, to get their allocation of top-selling models. Typically, these LC's sit on the lot for months, and the dealer is eager to discount them. In fact, in LA, it doesn't really pay to buy a Toyota/Honda that's 1-2 yrs old. You can get a new one for virtually the same price new at the end of summer sales. Another thing you may or may not have working against you is the new body style is due in '08. Many people willing to spend $50K+ on a luxury SUV will want a more modern body style.

Also, extras/options installed in a vehicle only fetch pennies on the dollar, like selling a house w/ a swimming pool. I think this is one reason why you see higher initial depreciation on luxury vehicles like the LX; those added features (rear entertainment, premium audio) depreciate super fast and don't significantly add to the resale value of the core vehicle.

FYI: North Texas Toyota dealers are running newspaper ads for $15,000 off brand new Land Cruisers, not good for used LC values. Good Luck.

Wow! That says a lot, as I seem to recall gas prices were rock bottom, dirt cheap in Midland.

I bought mine for about that much off invoice. In San Diego, they used to sell for MORE than invoice.

If you save $15,000, that pretty much pays for ALL your gas for the first 75,000 miles.

At 150,000 miles, you'll have spent as much as someone getting about 35mpg.

The numbers work. :)

The numbers work? Except that you can buy a crappy 35mpg car for less than $20,000....

15K under *invoice*? or under MSRP?
