how much damage - Brakes.

They have done the work they want to do right now with the promise that if it acts up even a little they will shotgun approach the entire brake system.
That would not be acceptable to me. My life, my family's lives, and the lives of everyone else on the road depend upon my brakes being able to stop the land tank I'm driving every time. In a year from now when something lets go and your 80 plows through an intersection turning a few compact cars into sub-compacts, they will act like they never met you. Better up your liability coverage if you are going to drive it like that.

I appreciate brake safety but that's a little melodramatic. With this kind if failure it's not going to show itself catastrophically like that, it's going to progressively lock the brakes at which point (I'll know in a month or so) that it needs to be redone and I have total confidence they will honor it. I wish they would have done it all at once too.

No, it won't progressively lock the brakes. As the seals swell (they will become almost 3X their original size) they push out of their grooves, become VERY soft, and LEAK.

After this is all over, take a left-over used seal from this or any other car/truck and drop it into a pan of ATF. Measure it and take a picture first. Then wait 3-4 days and do it again.

If it were me, I would have made them start from the beginning and replace ALL of it. They could flush the hard lines as described, but the risk is too much.

Have them sign a waiver that if your brakes EVER fail, they are responsible and will cover all costs and liability, and will replace all parts damaged and required. I just hope it doesn't include people.

It may sound over-dramatic, but it is VERY dramatic, when you think all is well, but you have that little shred of doubt always on the back of your mind, about that time that you are rolling up on a school bus full of kindergartners and Nuns.

Good Luck! I feel you'll need it on this one.

FYI - if anyone wants to know what it would cost to replace your entire brake system in parts alone, its about $3100

That is about what i figured. What do you think the ABS modal alone costs? Why do you think they dont want to do it? Because it is expensive thats why. If they can get you to go away for s few hundred dollars then that is what they will do. You need to get something in writing. The agreement that they admit they put ATF in there and will replace everything if need be.

He texted me tonight to check in and I confirmed the rears are still binding. They are committed to total replacement as of tonight. Fyi the abs module is just under 1900

Yep, 1900 again sounds right. Make sure it is new OEM. Sorry it is so expensive but that is the cost of screwing stuff up. Not to be a jerk, but they are lucky you are not asking for a rental car or something for the month that this will take to be right.

they shouldn't have it more than a week, and they will only use OEM, they only have so far.

Well that's a good outcome. Likely they just made an liability insurance claim. Everyone wins. A little.
Did you happen to say 90% brake fluid and 10% atf or other way around?

unsure, what the percentage is, but it wasn't a majority wrong.

Sounds like the shop will be stepping up to the plate.

Keep us informed of the outcome.

Then, let us know who took care of you. It's not that the mistake happened, because EVERYONE makes mitsakes. It's how you deal with it and how it's handled that makes ALL the difference.

Sorry it happened. It's very frustrating.

Hopefully the Kindergartners and Nuns will be safe again.....
