So just because I'm curious... :hmm:

There was a bit of discussion in one of the other threads about having more than one "offcial" JSC run. This would be a run that was planned out ahead of time, possibly be a fee for it (though smaller than McGrew probably), and possibly marketed to the other clubs around the area and through TLCA (this would be something down the road, not right away).

Keep in mind you don't have to attend all these, so you can vote for one every week even if you'd only attend McGrew. :p

This would also not affect McGrew, and yes McGrew would be one of the official runs.

(And yes, you can vote for multiple choices. This was intentional.)

Edit:
As a clarification, this is not for TLCA sponsored runs. These are only JSC runs and do not involve TLCA at all.

Right now I think we need to focus on just having one run and make it good. Next year I'm hoping that we will be able to handle two. Beyond that I think two a year is about what a club can handle. An official run means TLCA sanctioning which cost's the club money. If we're going to have additional runs then they are going to need to be fee runs and a portion of our profit will have to go to TLCA as a requirement of our charter as well as to get our liability insurance. As for non official runs I like as many as possible. The key is that any "official" run we need to involve TLCA in per our CGS agreement.

Lets see how Awesome we handle McGrew this year and then lets see about adding more to our plate my $.02

Just one for now. I think we best get our sh*t together and make this one over the top! If we can pull this off and do a good job then I think we can look at adding another official one.

(edit) or just read what Travis said.

There is a difference between an official JSC run and an official TLCA run (sponsored/hosted by JSC).

I'm not talking about an official TLCA run as that is obviously much more involved, but merely an official JSC run.

There are many TLCA clubs that have official runs that do not involve TLCA and are not TLCA events. They are obviously not covered by TLCA insurance, but that does not make them unofficial for that club.

See the difference?

If see the difference and do not think it matters. An official run will take time and planning regardless if it is TLCA sanctioned or not. I would like our other official run not to be sanctioned by TLCA personally, but that's a different topic all together. An official run, however or whatever the details, will take time and planning of which I think we do not have resources for beyond McGrew at this point.

I think we need to use the terminology: TLCA sanctioned, club run (or official), and impromptu runs. McGrew is our sanctioned run - we don't need anymore sanctioned runs, let's concentrate on that. Club/official runs, I think we should have at least two, planned out ahead of time, but no fee, no t-shirts, no advertising in Trails, none of that stuff that has echoes of TLCA sanctioning. Impromptu runs, get in as many as we can.

As an example, the local 4wd club (Klamath 4-runners, not toyota related at all) has a monthly meeting every 1st Tuesday, has a monthly club run, and yearly helps with the Jeepers McGrew trip. And they do trail clean-up, etc.

I am in agreement with both of the above comments.

Sanctioned - TLCA sanctioned/supported and open invite for the entire TLCA/Mud/etc groups. I agree we should stick with McGrew and get our feet wet running this and learning the ropes.
Official - JSC organized and run (the sponsor a friend kind of run)
  • Christmas tree run
  • Mining claim run
  • Pre-McGrew run
Impromptue - "Hey guys I'm going camping" "Hey we're going out looking for a tree next saturday" should happen whenever people want to go and get a group together.

I think that for the most part we are all in agreement on what was ORIGINALLY asked but the terminology caused some problems. We were asked "How many SANCTIONED runs?" We primarily said ONE. I think we also defined a little better what we thought runs were and how often we want to do them.
My 2¢

Maybe I don't understand what is so incredibly difficult and complex about having an official run. Time and planning? Pick a date. Show up. Have the run. Enjoy yourself. Hopefully get home without breaking things.

How is this any different from our impromptu runs? Aside from the fact that we're talking about planning them out months instead of days in advance, I don't see one iota of difference.

No ones saying we need to start collecting money or printing shirts (though collecting money wouldn't exactly be hard given that these runs are still going to be small and could be collected on site). Start it out simple, and work our way up.

More than a few JSC members have only been on one (or less!) runs, official or otherwise. Given that we've been around quite a while now, that kinda bums me out, and that's the driving force behind this.

I stand behind my statement whether you understand or agree with it or not.

I agree that the way I worded it could have been better. No, I did not ask how many sanctioned runs, though I certainly could have made sure that was understood rather than assuming it was.

I guess explaining how picking a date is difficult is as difficult as picking a date, eh? ;p

You know Motel 6 will give you a mud discount.

All I know is that planning out runs a couple months out or even a year out would make it easier for me to make. That is why I planned that club fishing/camping trip in July, I think that is a planned club run. Even it is not, I guess it don't matter. I don't think that it wouldn't hurt to plan some CLUB only runs in advance. I don't think it takes us all to be in agreement. If you want to plan a run put it on a calendar, make the date give directions and tell us a time. That is all from the guy in the other state.

Good points! It sounds like something we should discuss at length in January but in the mean time let’s think about runs we do already and start thinking about dates. Having several pre planned runs thru ought the year is a good idea. The impromptu runs are great also but starting to set some dates for runs we know we do is good as well, particularly for those that have to plan ahead and/or are long distance members.

Agreed.

and Agreed

We know July is going to be McGrew, so why don't we set up a run in April and October?

Let's go with a camping trip somewhere on the weekend of April the 9th (that's a Friday). Wheel in friday camp Saturday head home on Sunday'ish.

Edit:
We have changed this date to the weekend of the 16th instead for logistics reasons.

I vote for a mining claim run!

If we bring a saw there's some pretty gnarly wheeling to be had. Not that it's not gnarly already.... :D
