As of March I am joining the ranks of "mommy" and was wondering if y'all have any advice on wheeling with your children? When did you frist take them out and why that age?

I can't wheel until the baby comes, so I am concentrating on getting the piggy done before then, but still longing to get out on the rocks.

I do

I've wheeled with my kids since they were newborns.
Strap 'em in a car seat and go for it.
I take 'em everywhere....isn't that why we have 'em;)....to do stuff with:).

my son does the driving...he is a much better off road driver than i am...he has been driving/riding since the age of three...started him on the smallest suzuki dirt bike they made...at 8 he started "driving" the 40 around the pasture...now he has a license so it is all legal

I don't have children to call my own, however I have the temporary adoptable kind, 2 cousins (now 16 and 12), a niece (4) and a nephew (16mo). All of which have been Wheeling since they were born.
My Niece especially loves to ride with us. She sings away in the back seat, and usually will fall asleep during the roughest part of the ride. The 16 year old (who is like my son) now has his license and is very much involved in motor sports. He goes wheelin' with us every chance he gets and is also racing 4 Cly. stock cars (Dirt Devils) in '07, moving up to late-model stock cars in '08.

do my dogs count? ;)

lots of families in rising sun wheel with their kids.

I think when your first is born you will instinctively know when he/she is ready to go wheeling. I have seen parents bring kids of all ages to include infants.

I let my son steer my LJ78 on paved roads when he was about 2 y/o, he LOVED it and it just felt right to me.

You'll know when it is right, I'm sure of it.

we took my nephews out in our trucks

the 2-year-old fell asleep within 10 minutes

the 4- and 6- year olds loved it :D

they were allowed to pilot Michael's Chevy in a sand wash sitting on Michael's lap :bounce:

I wheeled with all 3 of my kids starting when they were very young, now that my kids are all grown up, my son still wheels with me in his own nicely prepared toyota and my 2 daughters ride with me every chance they get...lol... so don't be afraid to take them with you just make sure there secured safely and pick your trails accordingly, save the really crazy stuff for when they're not with you..

I am already researching the best safety seat for minimizing bumps. The baby is due in 3 weeks, so it will be a bit before she can go offroad with me, but I am thinking about bringing her to GSMTR so I can ride some and her papa can watch her back at the cabin.

does wheeling with your dogs count? They are the only children I plan on having. !

same here. got a rottie and a blue heeler/border collie that i wheel with, but only the easier trails cause they're both wusses. ;)

My niece has been riding along with her dad since she was about 10 months old. She's been to Moab probably 6 times at least and even done the Rubicon. She has made more trips than some of the members of my club. Megan is going on 13 and frothing at the bit for her own rig. :D I keep waiting for her to get to the age where she doesn't want to go and hang out with her dad, but that hasn't happened yet. Sometimes she likes to ride with me so "we can show those boys how it's done". I love my Megy!!:bounce2::bounce:
