Considering a “high” mileage (300k plus) 100 series LC or LX470.

Any one out there have 300k plus on there vehicle? How many miles did you put on it before it failed?

And for those with high mileage engines that havent failed how many miles do you have on it currently?

Anything I should make sure was or is replaced besides timing belt? Water pump?

About how much does a remanufactored engine cost to purchase/install?

How long will the transmission last, etc.

Any advice is greatly appreciate!

An engine may become less efficient over time, but "failure" is usually user error. Keep the fluids and filters maintained, keep the cooling system in good repair, don't submerge the intake, pay attention to your gauges, and drive on.

Honestly, overheating is probably the most likely precipitating event. Change those T's and swollen hoses.

Well... uhhh...

Yeaaa

All of them.

If you don't abuse it, you've got very little to worry about:

(and if the story is to be believed, this is the alleged "inferior" US built motor)

There is a Carfax of a LC with 730k on original engine somewhere here. That's totalled due to an accident.

Thanks everyone. Anyone have an engine fail yet?

Lots have had their engines blow up, because they didn't pay attention to the gauges, lost all coolant and overheated the engine and fried it.
There seems to be a new thread about oncea month because of this.
"My wife was driving...."
"My truck lost power..."

Coolant leak. Engine fried.

^^^^ Correct. I have even had one of my hundys overheat exploding radiator after daughter kept idling after serpentine belt broke, unbeknownst to her. It reached 235* with no issues at all after replacing radiator. Also, had one of my 80s overheat twice due to loosing coolant quickly from heater control valve (can't remember other issue). Both times the engine shut off. Filled with water, replaced valve and no issues at all. It now has 462K miles. Divine.

I think I remember a total of one case here on MUD where someone’s engine died with no outside contributing factors. Change your oil, maintain your cooling system, and don’t go redlining it on ice or dropping things down the intake ports and these UZ engines will last forever.

We have a 1UZ and 2UZ in my immediate family, both over 200k, both well maintained and running absolutely perfect with no leaks. If one of them were to fail, I’d put my money on the 1UZ. It ticks a little louder and I suspect the whole car was fairly abused several owners ago. The 2UZ is still just buttery smooth and quiet.

I could rant all night about how the UZ-series V8s may be the best engines humanity has ever developed.
