I felt it would be interesting to see how many of us have actually removed the crappy de-laminating wood grain dash in our 80s.

I haven't, but I'm planning to remove the pieces on the front doors that surround the lock and window buttons as those are the only pieces de-laminating in my whole truck.

I'd be interested to hear how many have though, and if they have details/pics of the ordeal.

I want to do this. I have a couple peices delaminating and its fugly.

Just hack the crap out. It's fugly, but the best thing to do is to leave pieces of it here and there. :D

Matco Flat tip screwdriver. Using a chisel or generic brand screwdriver equats to being a butcher :flipoff2:

Yes, i agree junk. I left the rear passenger door wood thingy's on where the window control is. That way when people get in my 80, i can point to that and say yes, it was once a mall cruiser, but i saved it's life! :flipoff2:

Where is the vote for...

No, I didn't have the crap on my truck to begin with. AND I am GLAD!!!

:D:D:D

use a LITTLE heat to soften the glue and the wifes frosting knife. That knife is wide with rounded edges so it worked well to get under the pieces and pry them off.

And where is the selection for wood is gone but gold stays!!!

I removed mine after it started to come off on its own. In 20 years people will be scouring the internet to find these pieces....

Lx450 wood not removeable, and fortunatly it does not delaminate, and my gold is staying also :flipoff2:

Hehe, `cause it's not wood...

Took it off the `94, left ugliness under there, but luckily got a deal on a set of Madera Concepts wood to re-cover it. Really nice stuff, they are factory certified for OEMs like Jaguar. High quality real wood, 60 hand-laid and polished layers of laquer, and best thing: no sticky stuff, it's all bolt on with tiny unnoticeable finishing screws. Of course, if I had had to pay full price, I wouldn't have done it...

Best way is to heat it with a heat gun or blow dryer and take somthing with either a rubber or wooden tip so you do not scratch the plastic. I used the tapered edge of a wooden clothes pin. And you can clean the remaining glue with Pre-All, or some rubbing alcohol.

Hmmmmm, if there are people out there keeping their Gold emblems.... maybe there is someone out there that wants to trade me my Gold for their Chrome or Black Pearl :D ?

Send me a PM if you likes Da Bling Bling.

Concrete,

I replied yes but it's a qualified yes. I chisle off pieces as they start bugging me. Maybe 75% gone now, with 1 or 2 pieces getting pulled each year.

just rough up the gold and spray it matte black. don't know why they thought gold would be a nice look. maybe japanese think it look rich. and thats what the north american market wants. to look rich. ????
rip that sh_t out of there!

If you're gonna shine your wood, please do so in chat. :flipoff2:

Actually, I think hacking it out is one of the better mods an 80 owner should do. :D
