Not a rattle-can job, but a professional paint job done by a reputable body shop in a paint booth.

Did you need to re-paint that 4Runner already?:whoops:

Wait until it gets dirty and you have to wash it. Then wax it after you wash it.

When I had mine done they said to wait 30 days- being an impatient bastard I claybar'd it 2 weeks later and have no issues. Mine was also color wet sanded if that makes a difference.

wait...are you buffing? If not then run with it now

what kind of paint was used, base coat clear coat or acyclic?

A good base coat clear coat I would wait around 30 days, a cheaper acyclic say like Napa Crossfire wait around 90 days to be sure...sometimes sooner.

A little tip everyday or so take a waterhose(cold water) and dribble the water over the paint...............cold water helps it cure. Dont use high pressure.

I think you mean acrylic.

Yep, the black duct tape matched pretty well but it was fading, needed a touch-up.

I'll stop and ask the bodyshop for details on the paint. They have an excellent reputation, and another body shop looked it over and said it was well done, so probably not a cheap paint. I need the rear hatch on the LC touched up, might be a good time to ask about that.

I'd like to get a clay bar and start actually taking care of my paint for a change. There are different grades of clay apparently, what's a good all-purpose grade to start with for my cars?

If you want to claybar and polish and not have to think about it for at least 6 months look into Zaino Bros- a little pricey but it is by far the best stuff I have put on my truck- A little goes a long way.

just my .02

here is a pic for reference

My car's got some fine clear coat scratches that can be seen in the sun. Polishing did jack s***. Will clay bar help?

There are some products that will help fill the scratches in but once they are there they are there for good. I have them on mine from tree limbs and using cheap towels, dark colors always show them- think of clay barring like this- if you polish and dont clay first- its like taking a s*** and just pulling your pants up without wiping- all you are doing is moving the crap that is stuck to your paint around and causing more scratches.

yup

its a myth to have to wait, If the paint is cured it is good to go.

It's likely to be raining or snowing for the next six months, so that might be worth it.

This thread is like the "what type of oil should I put in my 80" threads.

Yes, because most of us repaint our cars every 5000 miles.

edit:

First, I got all of my painting experience from the side of a can of Krylon and Rustolium.

But

When I got my Tow Rig painted the paint and body shop said wait 45 days. They said the solvents would evaporate out of the paint for about 30 days based on the current climate temperatures.

It sounds funny but he said smell it. If it smells like new paint, the solvents are still coming out. When you cannot smell the paint, it is OK to wax it.

You would not beleive it....but there is some really anal people that would. I have worked(including industrial painting which really is irrevelant here) at several body shops that buff later, they say helps helps with the profile but honestly I cant tell the diffrence. Honestly paint tech. changes so rapidly, and so much check with your body shop before messing with your paint, just simply because of the warranty. Just because the paint is dry on the surface does not mean its cured under . If they went with heavy mills....it takes some time to cure
Cool, thanks.

Buffing fresh paint? Is that sometimes necessary?
