I usually buy cars and drive it until the wheels fall off....was wondering what everyone else thought.

Kept my 3 year old 100 until it was 16 years old. Loved it every single time I got behind the wheel.

We bought our 2009 LX570 about a month ago with 109,000 miles on it. I'd like to get to at least 300,000! 10 years is a minimum for us. Gotta keep up on the maintenance - an ounce of prevention...

When I feel there is enough miles on it versus what I could sell it for.

So prob when I'm in the 180 to 190k neighborhood, probably.

Since I bought my LX at 5 years old, I am thinking that I will probably do the 10+ year kind of thing, which would put me at getting something newer in 2025 or so. That is about my retirement age and who knows what I will be driving then....

could be a long Caddy (old man car) driving at about 20 miles per hour below the posted speed limit, with the left hand turn signal perpetually on...

Nooooooooo!

Do not not gently into that good night!

Do not give up without a fight!

Rage against the dying of the light!

(And drive a Cruiser to your grave site!)

I would only sell mine to buy another that's newer with low miles. It would not be due to my truck wearing out or anything like that. I know without a doubt at the 180 - 190k range, it's still going to be a very tight vehicle. But, there is a point where selling I will realize the most payback. For my wants and needs, that is just short of the 200k mark. That $$ just goes towards a newer, lower mileage Land Cruiser.

Then repeat.

It's what I've done for about 25 years now with my LC's.

IF Toyota made a LC that got me 25+ miles per gallon, I would trade mine in sooner. Otherwise, I don't see another vehicle fitting my needs any better. Mine will be around for a while.

As to the comments regarding my old man car... you never know. I still am not sure what happens to people to want to go out and buy one of those, but who knows... maybe once Alzheimer's sets in.... it may be the thing to drive!

Why 10 years or why low miles? After ten years, I get the itch to see what's new (and car tech comes a long way in a decade). Low miles are because I live (& work) in a small City. But, the roads here are embarrassingly bad so it does take a toll.

Just curious. A blanket 10 years just seems rather arbitrary.

I love the original poem, and your Cruiser Head version is awesome!

I would do the same if I didn't start doing upgrades, customizations, and didn't develop an unhealthy attachment to my vehicles. I feel like if a cruiser has been good to me, I can't put one out to pasture.

If I ever get one (hope springs eternal)...i'd like to hold onto it for at least 10 years...however the minister of finance and I don't see eye to eye in regards of vehicle retention and keeping..hoping thatll change once she gets in an LC or LX570..her only exposure is my dad's rusty and crusty 84 fj60...

I'll keep mine until they start selling the twin turbo diesel.

I plan to keep mine until the kids are all the way through school. That should hit in the 15 -20 year Mark. After that I will purchase a five year old 300 series.

Any Cruiser I buy will need to be about 5 years old before I can afford it. ;)

I have to wait even longer... I can't off road a $30k+ vehicle.

When is 300 series going to be released? Next year?
