SILVER Star
I cruise at about 63-68 (55-60 indicated) on the way to work in mine every morning. When i am in a hurry I go between 70 and 75 (60-65 indicated). It feels fine at those speeds, but it is not a racecar, so i'd echo the rubber up in a ditch comment if i needed to swerve. On good 4 lane on a long road trip i go 75(65 indicated) It feels good there. Much over that and she starts shaking, so I don't push it unless i am passing.
I have had it on flat ground with the speedo showing 85 a few times attempting my own land speed record and it seemed to do ok, except for the fact that the engine was sittign at 4000rpm, and the driveline was shaking like a SOB. I think that equated to about 97MPH. I'd say that is the top speed.
But, It'll cruise at 70 all damn day long just fine. I get about 16MPG, and it is smooth as silk. Kinda nice at that speed. But (but one more time) I usually go 75 on the interstate since thats what traffic seems to move in the slow lane, and it still feels good. Gas mileage drops a bit though.
My truck (85 fj60) has 32" mudders on it and has 234,000 miles on the clock. Engine, tranny, suspension, and everything else except for the shocks (may have been replaced) is stock. Oh and it has some cheapie 2" shackles on it with worn bushings.
I was used to driving a 67 land rover before, so this is better.. keep in mind that it really depends on what you are used to. If you get out of a brand new tundra and step into an 85 LC, you may feel like you are going to die at anything above 65.
