I’ve purchased no less than 3 sets of these stupid retainer “screws”? Seriously. Are they a push pin? Threaded screw? Whatever it is supposed to do, it’s really good about launching the front one off, even if you never step on the plastic base. Pretty sure there is a whole village of them gathering under the seat or inside the floor heater. What’s the secret to getting them to do their job!

If you've replaced your carpet (or it's been repalced for you) and the pad is thicker than OEM, you'll need longer nuts than the OEM, or they won't stay in place.
 
That’s a bye bye mod on my rig. Good thought Toyota. But they basically just trap dirt under them and along the jam. You gotta take em out to vaccum and those nuts you are referring always wear out. End rant

You need longer ones more than likely. Or cut the carpet loose around the stud. They just do a 90 degree turn
 
Push or screw on. Could replace with acorn nuts.
