As I learn the truck I realized from an appearance standpoint I prefer:

1) all lights including fog lights on at night.

2) during the day I prefer daytime running lamps. It's cool looking.

The problem is that when in auto mode during the day the driving lamps do not come on. Which is strange. I would think they should be default. In fact there is no way to just have the running lamps on which is a bummer.

Sooo... I find that I must manually turn on and off all lights during the day. And therefore night too since they aren't left in auto!

What do you guys do?

I think you misunderstand the definition of "auto." Check it out in the manual.

On other cars auto means they auto come on when it is dark enough. And when they come on all settings that you have them set at come on. This is perfect for nighttime. However if you leave it on the auto setting in the daytime then the running lamps will not come on. Because they do not work when the fog lights are on. You have to deliberately set the lights to the daytime running light setting.

So--is the problem that...you don't like having to turn the knob to on rather than auto?

2016- DRL during day, all lights on at night, no buttons.

Are you saying you can leave in auto and get DRL's on the 16?

It depends on what you mean by DRL's. The LED strip under the headlights are not the DRL's on the LC. They are for the LX. You will get the LC's version of DRL's (dim low beams) in auto.

My 200 series is a '13 Cruiser.

At night, low beams and led strip below headlights (drls or parking lights, whatever you want to call 'em)

Fig lights are 45 watt halogens in deep yellow and don't go on unless it's foggy. ;) OEM fogs are useless to me in fog as the white light gets reflected back into your face.

DRLs can be programmed to come on or stay off as desired. Mine are off in the daytime on local freeways and in town. On 2-lane interstate highways, low beams with DRLs are always on. With both high beams and Hella Rally 400s as backup. I don't use the Auto setting.

THAT was my disconnect! I'm coming from a GX460 and the LED strip was the DRL. So I was wanting the strip on the LC to be the DRL. But you're right, its a low beam. The LED strip is apparently part of the parking lights!

I think the DRL is actually the high beam running at reduced output. It is that way because the high intensity low beams don't behave well with excessive 'strikes' or ignitions. I am commenting from the perspective of the 2013. I am not familiar with previous or subsequent models. I think the LEDs are more effective as DRLs than the reduced intensity high beams but many people have bent their spears trying to do it the Lexus way on the LC. While I like them I think they blossomed into a sales gimmick and that is why they are everywhere. A very effective gimmick IMO.

Yes. My DRL's are on during the day, lights automatically turn on at night, and I haven't touched my auto button since the day I bought the vehicle.

Our 2015 works exactly the same way.

Unfortunately, the marketing media (and I think the owners manual) makes it seem like the strips are the DRL's. I can only assume that's because they are in countries that don't have Lexus or the LX. I was rather...peeved...when I found that out.
