How do you ground the fuel sending unit

'71 FJ40. The electrical wiring schematics do not show the sending unit as being grounded.

I have good 12V contacts at the fuel guage (original) and when touching the sending unit side of the guage to a ground, the needle goes toward the battery side as I believe it should. The guage is not close to accurate. The sending unit has no location for a ground. Is it supposed to? The P/O tried to ground with one of the screws around the sending unit...which has no effect one way or the other.

Thanks in advance....

There should be a white wire with a black stripe that has a loop connector on it in the same loom that the power wire to the sender is in. It is a two-wire affair that comes up through the body and passes over the tank to the sending unit. That ground wire is then secured to the sending unit with one of the mounting screws....

Usually there is a white/black stripe ground wire from the top of the sender to the chassis. If it is missing, make one.
