How do you get a 37" tire on a swing out?

I'd like to have that on a pull cable from the driver seat.

For tailgaters and upcoming unavoidable collitions.:hillbilly:

how does it latch in the UP position? i am half starting to build my own swing down, but an still trying to figure out the best way to lock it up, thanks :)

^^ If you look at the first picture of the 37 on the 80 you can see the red handled pin that holds the swing down in the up position. We made up a latch system with a bunch of 1/4" tabs and hitch pins. Works really good for what it is.

Both carrier builds are "documented" lol in my build threads, "93 80 Beater" for the 80 and "New addition 85 FJ60" for the 60 carrier.

One thing I like about yours and the one gnob made were when you swing it down you can easily toss the tire on, boltup and then swing back up.

Yeah, that was cool but I had to sacrifice that feature when I redid it for the 37. Now I have to lift the tire onto the carrier when its up which is a pain since the 37 and the steel rim weigh roughly 5000lb.

Just as a side note, the 80 carrier is solid but the 60 swing down with the latch pin offset from the pivot is bomb proof. Ive pinged it off at least one tree, backed it into a creek bank several times in a row, and like a retard tried to drive the 60 into the garage with the swing down in the up position (the tire is about 3" above the roof of the 60 and the 60 only has about an 1" of clearance in the garage w the 40's on it). The thing hasnt moved, when I drove it into the garage header the whole rear end of the van squatted down but the carrier stayed put.

figured out it's possible to do the hoist w/o having one tube slide inside another, just make the arm rotate down and into the center of the rim - them could even put a latch on that and forgo strapping or bolting it on.... just a thought... Ordered my swing spindle today - need to call on steel this afternoon so I can get started on this over christmas...

Rather than sopporting the tyre from the bottom would you not think about supporting on the wheel stud holes in the centre of the wheel.

Only thinking that with the pulley system mounting on the middle of the upper arm ( for want of a better description), the lower support is likely to keep catching the tyre as you lift it. A centre wheel stud mount would stick out less and be less likely to catch I reckon.

Those pulley systems you referred back to a while back look great but I'd change the rope from that s***ty nylon stuff ( its too slippery) to some sailing quality non stretch rope.

Oh and add a cleat so you can tie the rope off easily with one hand.

Not necessary in the top arm, but an option would be a front to back slot with a pin in it, The pin would be what you hook the rope hoist to, and then it could slide forward and back. But I'm guessing that if you just put the hoist attachment out far enough that the tire isn't banging into the bumper too bad while lifting, swinging it into the lower 'basket' wouldn't be too difficult.

yep, those are just some cheap ones I found easily - rather have a thicker softer rope.

On the one hand I think once it's raised, should be able to able to hold it long enough to push it to the 'basket' and drop it in easily enough, on the other hand I was kinda thinking of cleat myself :)
