Hey everybody, I got a trailer and I’ve never used them before and don’t have the slightest idea what to do. Seems like some people were complaining that it was in a really weird location to hook up. Others were saying I’d need to buy some really obscure cable adapter.

I guess it goes without saying I’d like the most convenient option and not have to dig around every time to connect the trailer, but I don’t even know what options I have.

I do see that Harbor freight has a seven pin to four pin adapter. It looks like the right connection that goes on my trailer. Would appreciate the feedback thank you!

You have a 4-pin trailer? And the stock 7-pin wiring on the truck? If so, you just need to buy a 7-pin to 4-pin adapter. You can get them at wallmart or uhaul or most any auto parts store. The one at harbor freight is probably fine.

If your trailer wiring is missing from the truck (apparently a few 200's were built without it), you need 82169-60080 (stock 7-pin trailer wiring harness).

Yeah I had to add the round, 7 pin connector to my 2018. Purchased from dealer.

MOST 200s come with a 7 pin connector under the bumper to the right of the hitch tucked awkwardly by the spare
Your trailer likely has either a 7 or 4 pin connector. If it's 4 pin, you'll need an adaptor from 7 pin to 4 pin.
Depending on the length of the pigtail on your trailer, you may need an extension, either 4 or 7 wire. This is because the 200 harness is so far offset to the right. Make sure that the trailer can swing both directions as far as needed without pulling the trailer harness taught
Both of the above are widely available anywhere hardware, tools, or trailer supplies are sold and just plug in.

@TimCFJ40 pretty much summed it up. Here's where the 7-pin connector should be (red circle), assuming they installed the harness when the truck was new.

(note my bumper is different than yours)

And here is what a 7-pin to 4-pin adapter looks like.

I got mine on Amazon, but they are sold a lot of places.

Yeah, the location of the connector is not that great, you need a pretty long cable for the trailer to reach it, to make sure it doesn't get yanked out in a sharp turn. You can get extensions.

It takes up a little more storage room in the tailgate compartment but I like the 7 to 4 pin adapters that have a coiled cord permanently attached for the 4-pin side. This accomplishes both the adapter and extension functions in one part.
