I've got a 1982 BJ42 and am looking to add A/C. It seems the brackets are hard to come by. If you have one, have pictures of one, drawings of one, I'd be interested. Can have one fabricated if need be, but need the details. Thanks!

Here is a solid thread to start with: AC with a 3B

I am also attaching a few options I tracked down online. They are not my designs and I don't have any experience with them. But I hope they help.

I have one on my 3B not currently in use, I don’t want to part with it but I will send you some pictures and measurements if you want.

For future reference @cruiseroutfit was able to get me the pulley.

Thanks! If at all possible, please post to this site so that all may benefit. Very generous of you! Thank you again for your time.

I'm in SLC, I would love to check this out and get dimensions if possible.

I’ll get some pictures tonight. Paul you are welcome to stop by and check it out any time, just shoot me a pm

I was able to order the AC crank pulley new from Amayama a couple years ago. I have the idler pulley/bracket & compressor mount. I know I have only one idler bracket/pulley, but I might have two of the compressor brackets. I’ll look today and post pictures if possible.

There are two types of A/C compressor mounts for a 3B and it is dependent on which compressor you want to use.
On my 40 I have the later mount used on the BJ70 series, this uses the newer type ND compressors (off FJ62 in my case)

It may be easier to source the later type mounts, fewer parts and much simpler than the older version.
Attached photo showing my engine getting ready to bolt up to my 40.

Don't know if the newer mount is compatible with the old alternator mount though...

I can see the difference between amauri ‘s bracket & mine. I guess I must have the earlier version.

Those are the new types just like the ones on my photo.

Fj62 compressor will work, but the clutch and pulley needs to be for a BJ70.

Good to know... I have an FJ62 compressor. Is the clutch/pulley from a BJ70 easy to come by?

Don't know, I got mine many years ago.
Keep in mind that a 12v clutch will not work on a 24v system and vice versa.

Hi. I have a question on the belt that drive the fan, water pump, alternator and compressor. Based on the picture you posted, it looks like one belt for all that. From the alternator it would go to the pulley (top side of belt touching the pulley), then to the compressor. Did I get that right?

There is a belt just for the A/C compressor, see the unused pulley on my harmonic damper.
Another for Alt and W/P
And another for the P/S pump (unless you have a gear driven P/S pump).

I guess it's hard to see from the picture posted. The pulley for tension and pulley for harmonic damper are aligned. I found a bracket but I'm hesitating to buy it because I have an oil cooler that is in the way. The oil cooler is not in your picture. By the way, how much should those brackets with tension pulley go for?

This is what I have currently. Trying to figure out how the bracket and pulleys you have fit

I'm pretty sure I have everything you need for measurements and such.....im not really interested in selling at this point, however you are more than welcome to borrow them for measuring and duplicating. Message me and we can discuss shipping or more detailed pics.... hope this helps.

Looks like you have a "B" engine

Don't know if the A/C mounts and pulleys off a 3B engine will fit the older B engine, I wouldn't bet on it.
