Horn Not Working

Don't buy a special tool as SM indicates- grab a 1/4" x 1" piece of flat bar and drill two holes to match the threaded holes on either side of the wheel shaft. Insert appropriate bolt in each hole, give one side a half turn past finger tight, then the other- should be a loud pop as the wheel disengages the splines on the shaft. remove yuor cobbled together puller and the wheel will just come right off.

Funny- I just fixed my horn last weekend after a year of occasionally being able to register my dissatisfaction with other drivers in this town. Like having your voice back after laryngitis! Sorry I can't recall the bolt type for the "puller". A no. 6 split washer under each contact fixed the horn though...

EDIT: Either I am weak or my steering wheel was stuck but I couldn't pull it off by hand.... I might be weak.

EDIT II: leave the nut on the steering shaft to protect the threads as the bar stock is pushing against them. back the nut up flush with the front of the shaft and brace against that.

Ok, so I tested my horns and one was broken. Scared the crap out of me when the second one worked. Anyway, I ordered some Hella Supertones. I made my wiring and got them hooked up but no dice. Looks like its on to the horn ring. Can't be just one thing can it? gesh...

anybody have a pic of the .22 casing installed, my horn is going south... works only with the steering wheel in certain angle:confused:
I'll see if i can take one later today but i just slid the casing over the old pin and put some dielectric grease on it and viola...horn works again.

This thread was very useful in figuring out why the horns on my 2 FJ60s didn't work. I thought I'd share the pictures from my cruiser to help others.

The parts:
Horn Contact Plate = 84312-20011 (This is the part that was extremely worn out)
About $8 from dealer
Horn Contact Ring = 45176-20030 (I replaced this, it was cheap and I was already in there)
Also about $8 from dealer, i bought mine from SOR for $11 though

Pictures were taken on phone sorry if they're a little blurry.
