Hello all, i've searched the whole internet and haven’t found a thing about the same problem as mine.. (I have a 1998 land cruiser 100 2uz-fe) so i’m going on here to see if someone can help me, it all began when my ignition shaft broke, okay not a very big deal.
I replaced the ignition shaft and since then when i unlock my LC the horn starts beeping! when i open a door it stops?. Then if i close a door around 5-15 seconds later it starts again! also if i open the drivers door (any door really) , close it and switch the ignition to the on position the car starts beeping its horn again, along with the ignition ring light flashing..! but this all stops when i open my door. I’m very lost so i hope someone here knows my problem.

Ooph, that's a weird one. I'm pretty much useless here but have you tried the classic technique, turn it off and back on again?

Remove negative battery cable, let it sit for 5-10 min, and see if symptoms change

Sounds like there might be an aftermarket alarm installed and it's going insane. Have you checked around the steering column and behind the knee bolster for add on modules or wiring?

Ive checked a few times too, pretty much stock other than some ramdom tapped in wires that lead to the radio..:worms:
But nothing that could lead to this possessed freakout.

My 2000 did that a few times about 10 years ago, usually after sitting out in the rain. Similar symptoms as yours. Never found a definitive cause but I suspect it was water running down to the backside of kickpanel fuse box that trips a relay, either from a compromised windshield seal or sunroof drain. I came out one morning and saw the foglights were on. As soon as I opened the door and tapped the light switch, the horn started blasting. I disconnected the battery and it stopped but the cycle kept repeating itself. I ended up disconnecting the horn and fog lights. 10 years later, I still haven't researched it further. It's fine as long as it doesn't rain. I don't miss the fog lights but would sure like to have a horn again. I've considered bypassing the horn circuit and run an independent relay and wire to it.

I see you mentioned you tapped the radio wires. This didn't start happening until after I bought an iPod adapter to splice into the radio harness. Perhaps that's what's interacting with the factory alarm and has a hair trigger?

Thanks for the reply! My car was at a garage back in may, they have a kind of forest at the back of their garage where all the cars sit when they are done, my LC sat there for a while since they didn't tell me my car was ready to be picked up (i was driving my dads car so i didn't really think much of it but oh boy did i make a mistake) .. Well i picked up my car and i noticed the alarm didn't work anymore, along with the hazzard's not blinking when locking/unlocking the car (plus the CD changer dying but anyway). Then after that the ignition rod broke.. Fixing that and then that's where the hell began.:bang: Not to mention the car had a bit of mold and corrosion pretty much everywhere after i picked my car up, and it rained allot that month so i'm indeed suspecting water ingress somewhere...

And about the tapped in wires, those were there when got the car since i pretty much didn't do any mods to it other than maintenance, but ill check the wires again tomorrow and see where they lead to anyways!

Turns out it wasn’t to the radio!

As you can see the red wire is for the outlet where you see the red light, right photo i took the fuse out and you can see it doesn’t send any power anymore. Anddd i’m probably going to clean the space there since it’s VERY dirty..

This car has so manny mysteries i still need to solve.

So it was aliens.
This car is a whole alien.. Anyways i found a way though to make the car shut up without pulling my horn fuse, i pulled this plug out around/under the steering wheel =

the honking stopped! I can still start my car normally and even use my horn again, this plug leads to the ignition ring light.. I don’t get how THAT’S setting the horn off, but this is only temporary because i’m probably gonna miss that light around the ignition but… My neighbors will thank me!

and goodluck, i need to replace a few bulbs that are going out:frown: But i have no idea where to buy them really.

checked all connectors that you disconnected? perhaps you broke a pin when connecting or so? pushed one pin out and now it's giving you the failures?

Yeah i thought this would’ve been the problem but no.. i’ll have to investigate later on what the deal is with the ignition ring light.

Everyone thank you for helping me and for the responds! i have found my problem and everything works again

Stupid blue fuse was blown, i found the window brake sensor and followed the wiring harness to this fuse (under the steering wheel). Opened the cap and there it was, a blown dang fuse! Thank you all for trying to help me, godbless!
