Brand new relay

Horns blow if I straight wire(checked with straight piece of copper wire into the plug that fits to the relay.)

Fuse good(shares with brake lights and they work)

Cleaned up all the steering wheel stuff.

Still no horn from the steering wheel.

Not sure what to try next.

tia,

Do you have pre or post 9/72? There was a change there.

Anyway, my truck came with the horn brush (11) missing. Is yours in there? Can you pull off the steering wheel, ground the horn and make it blow?

mine is 4/72 and the brush is there and clean.

not sure about the wiring between the steering wheel->fuse->relay...

most everything else works... lights, blinkers, markers,...

OK, well, the Green wire with the Red stripe that comes up into the steering column has a junction plug along the steering column. You should be able to unplug that and ground it and make the horn blow if that wire is intact.

The power to the relay comes from a Green wire with a Yellow stripe which should be hot all of the time. You should be able to tell if it is hot with a test light at it's junction to the horn relay.

I shall try this tomorrow. Thanks !!

So did you wire power into the relay power? relay ground?
or power to the horn?

the relay is always hot and waits for a ground from the horn button, once you get the ground the relay throws, and puts the voltage to the horn

You might have the horn button misconfigured so never getting the gound --have a look at Coolermans horn breakdown on his site

check for the always hot wire at the relay connector with a test light or remove one of your side marker lights and use that:hillbilly: or a meter if you have one

if you have power cut a piece of wire and ground it at one end and stick it in the back of the horn relay connector on the ground wire or as suggested on the column to provide the ground and see if it works

if you want to just test the relay make up a couple wires with female spade terminals and test it off the battery

if you dont have a meter and want to test the horn wiring leg you can again use the side marker light run a wire from the pos side of the light to power then take the lights ground wire and stick a jumper wire on it and hold that in the connector on the column or at the relay while someone pushes the horn button---if the light comes on you know you have a ground there ----again just a :hillbilly: solution if you have a meter and knwo how to use it then just shoot continuity to ground

lots of ways to do it
