I know there's been a lot of digital ink spilled on the various Tesla screens. I recently saw an ad for this amazing looking horizontal one. Besides being a better layout for maps + Android Auto / Carplay, it also enables very cool buttons and dials for HVAC, volume, etc... Anyone have insight on this, the brand, whatever? It's not cheap, but could be a game changer... Canavie 19.8"

Similar one (same one?) from Navihua too:

Holly s... 20''??! That new 14'' coming with the new Toyota products tacked onto the dash is already a ridiculous proposition, I can't even imagine a 20''. I much prefer the OEM screens in the 2016+ LCs. They are completely out of the way, integrated to the dash and in the perfect viewpoint where you do not have to deviate your sight from the road too much to look at it. The only thing you need is a carplay integration. Resolution is not the best, I will give you that, but it's really just to show a map to where you are heading anyway.

Cool screen. That’s not a 200 series dash though.

Unless of course you reposition the center vents, replace the hvac controls, move the start button, etc.

Yeah the repositioned vents and start button are what really worry me. Some of those tweaks may fail and it seems like it'd be complicated to undo. I think I was mostly swooning at the dials on this horizontal screen versus the vertical ones. You just talked me out of it. Thank you

It looks like they've got options on their website that have the appearance of our normal dash fascia. With that said, the pics don't exactly inspire confidence with respect to taking a pic of your dash with each order, not changing the dash type with selecting of different models reflecting the install on the options, etc. Buyer beware imo.

If you're feeling brave, go for it. I am leery however.

They also have an option for a 12.3" Android screen if you have an LX. This one looks a little less over-the-top (I think it actually looks good) but is somehow more expensive at $2200.

For $2200 I better know that the thing works flawlessly..... also interested to see if anyone else has tried one of these. I know a few on here have done the vertical screen ones.

That looks nice for sure.

They have one like mine but a newer unit. I have never heard of this company. I don't know if they are different from the ones Phoenix sells

I have been debating upgrading for Android Auto, Better Hot spot connection to my phone and newer operating system

I believe this is for 2016+ LXs that already have a screen setup like this -- this replaces the stock screen with a fancier system... for those people, I'm not sure it's worth the price instead of using Beatsonic / Grom VLine... not totally sure. I have a 2014 and thought about doing the same backside retrofit, but the screen is small and low resolution and I'd like something nicer and more useful in the space.

Based on all the good points made in this chat and a few DMs (incl. @Romer !) I think I'm going to pull the trigger on this one: https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/RoadNavi-Tesla-Style-Android-11-Car_1601038706923.html. It seems I can pay with a credit card, which makes me feel better in case anything goes wrong.

It's 8GB / 128GB, Android 11, and the agent said it supports all steering wheel controls, OEM cameras, and wireless android auto + apple carplay.

Pricing is $758 per unit, plus $138 shipping. If anyone wants to join and split the shipping costs, I'd be happy to handle the logistics. I'm based in LA; we can work out domestic shipping if you're not nearby. Let me know if you're interested; I can also ask the agent any other questions. (I'll of course share with you all the chats, emails, receipts..)

I would be nervous buying on that site

One thing to check is a lot of the world got the 200 series GX. USA ones are more like the Sahar a. If that is a GX one, it may not work

You likely will get hit with Tarrifs at us Customs you will have to pay to get it out and continue shipping to you

Edit: it could be fine and work for you. Just one of the reasons I bought mine from EC in Australia. Phoenix Auto has had some success although a member is currently having an issue with one of thier new ones

Ditto the above especially the bit on the tariffs. Being that it is shipped from China the de minimis exemption will not apply. As such, add at least 45% tariff. I think that is the current rate, could be more.

You may want to consider that Android 11 came out in 2020, and is at end of life this month. Meaning it will no longer see active updates or support from Google. Which in itself is likely okay.

More importantly is app support. Developers will be moving on and with the pace of things changing, you'll see major apps stop providing installers for Android 11 in 4-5 year. New or smaller apps may not support it at all going forward. That might be okay too depending on how long you anticipate owning the car.

Excellent point on the OS and future support. I reached out to the vendor and he said they're running Android 13 on all units.

This is my very first time dealing with somewhat dicey Chinese vendors and really appreciate all the great advice and cautions. I wouldn't feel comfortable doing the wire transfers that some vendors request. Paying by credit card (hopefully) well give me protection to get my money refunded.

Fwiw there are many many vendors on Alibaba and international websites. They all look identical. It seems like companies like Belsee and EC are just reselling these units at a significant markup (I also found them on Amazon).

Android 13 is perfect.

I acquired mine directly from a vender via AliExpress. Delivery and support was prompt but difficult with the language barrier. YMMV. There is some complexity to install so it maybe worth the premium to source from a US vendor depending on your level of confidence.
