Looking for some general AC guidance. I have an '05 Odyssey Touring edition. Got it last summer. Already had it in 2 times for AC work. Now that the temps are gettin' up there, I think it's "marginal" again. Granted, ambient is ~105. But after venting the car on startup (all windows down for a minute) then running on recirc at high for 10 minutes, all I can muster is 55 degrees from the center vent. Not cool enough, right? I mean it cools the interior slowly, but its definitely not cold. First thing in the AM right out of the garage I can get 40 degree air from the center vent.

Should I drag it back again?

Dealership service (Honda Cars of Mesa) has been less than stellar, requiring me to return right after the second service, get the svc mgr's butt in the car and show him my vent thermo when it was 115 out last year...)

I'm getting close to the lemon-law limit here in AZ, 4 tries for the same problem... :frown:

I think it's common with Honda. My father had two Hondas and had trouble with the AC's on both. My Acura's AC can also be described as "marginal".

It may be a Honda thing, but ac at the vent is supposed to be 40 degrees. That is with a probe in the vent say 3". If it putting out 40 deg air in the morning, then it should continue---at the vent.
Have an independent ac shop? Why not have them check over the system, then confront the dealer. I worked for an independent for 3 years to learn enough to do my own work.
And don't listen to the song and dance that the new 134 wont cool like the r-12.
The newer systems do a wonderful job on the 134. Id like to see the pressures on both high and low sides when outside temp is really high and it isnt cooling very well. You could have a air leak that is allowing small bit of hot outside air to be blown inside with the cold air.
Back at the dealer---go on lot and pick a car, crank it and check the vent output. Have the dealer verify what you find. I think you will find cooler air than what your system is giving.

it's a function of the volume of air that needs to be cooled down

for real cold real fast: get a Miata :flipoff2:

sorry, no help here, the three Honda's I had years ago were all excellent

but the current (mitsu) minivan sure takes longer to cool down
