Let's see... Illegals boycott. Businesses close. Tells me what business hires them. I will never call them again.
Did the illegals win here? NOT!

Exactly, I hope the people that organized these "protest" continue to do so & eventually the American public will turn on them... And Amend the 14th Amendment to include only citizens of the US...

Ah, Relix, doesn't the 14th Amendment already only include citizens of the US? Of course if the above quote was dripping with sarcasms I missed it – D’oh! It is easy to perceive that the current establishment (State and Federal) gives everyone living in the US the fundamental rights of being treated equal and given equal protection and due process regardless of citizenship. I will go so far as to say the establishment, even when trying to take away some of the “rights” illegal immigrates have come to enjoy cannot get it right.

Take a close look at the NEW Citizenship and Identity requirements in order to receive Medicaid. The new requirements are going to prevent US citizens (homeless, elderly, mentally ill, some groups of children) from getting the medical coverage and ultimately the treatment they need while a well organized illegal alien will have no problem remaining on Medicaid. Why? Because these “at risk” US Citizens will not be able to produce the required documentation while a well organized illegal alien will only need to produce a reasonable forgery and have no problem “proving their citizenship and identity. All the while the total numbers of people on Medicaid will drop and the Politicians will claim victory while the illegal immigrant keeps on getting those expensive medical bills paid for by you and me.

By the way I am 100% for immigration the legal way.

Wow all this because Filiberto's was open.

This is precisely the part I do not understand. If I can present documentation to TWO tax authorities in different countries doing transatlantic data exchange with banks and what not and all this for two separate people - then, why can't a a US-born person produce documentation as simple as a birth certificate and a Social Security number? like you need to learn a whole new language for that?

Plus, as dapper as most 65-80 year olds are (ever been to a supermarket parking lot between 9:30 and 11 am? or the golf course, for that matter?), you don't seriously surmise that they do not know what is good for them? Hell, you and I find out all we can about tire prices before we buy; do you seriously think some old folks can't calculate anymore?

What is so hard to understand? This has nothing to do with your ability to perform complicated transatlantic data exchanges dealing with multiple taxing authorities - although I would really like to hear more about this sometime. This is to do with the Feds making something more difficult for US citizens with the hopes of reducing the medical coverage (and therefore expense) associated with illegal aliens. My point is it is not going to work very well because the law does NOT say that they agencies viewing the new forms of documentation have to do any type of verification as to the validity of the documentation - I read this to say that a reasonable forgery will be accepted.

Most older folks will be able to produce 2 acceptable forms of documentation, some will not. Some folks don't even know where they were born and no one is going to go to the expense of trying to find out. A social security card will not be an acceptable form of documentation under the new guidelines. Neither is a drivers license, but your passport will work. Wonder how many people that truly need Medicaid carry a passport…

I refuse to believe that old people are stupid (as you make them sound) and don't have the mental whereabouts to get their paperwork in order. Hell, as per MaddBaggins, I am approaching old age real fast, myself ;p

BTW the old people program is called MediCARE; MediCAID is for the poor under 65 years of age.

I did not mean to make old people sound stupid. :whoops: My neighbor who passed away last weekend at the ripe old age of 94 could have absolutely produced any documentation required to prove citizenship. She was sharp as a tack the day before she passed away. My granddad who passed away last year at 99 could not have produced any documentation for the last 6 or 7 years due to dementia but this family would have been able to produce the required documentation. I am concerned about folks like my granddad who do not have any family to help them out.

You are right about Medicaid and Medicare and the new citizenship rules don’t apply to Medicare – yet.
