Don't replace anything on the AHC system (except maybe a fluid flush) without running Techstream first.

the rust converters I have used go on white, then turn black when dry. If wetted later on, they may turn partially white again. Was it very humid when you put that on?
Then again, maybe your kind is different.

You want to clean up the loose rust before applying (wirebrush, needle scaler etc) but not clean all the surface rust off, it needs some to react.

I just wanted to change the springs. Can that be done without running techstream please

Weather was not humid. It was not too warm. About 16c. I thought it should have gone black. It still had white bits when I checked 4hours later. I am confused

The rust converter that I use is mainly phosphoric acid as the active ingredient.

It etches painted surfaces leaving a white residue that mostly washes off. When in contact with iron oxide it turns black.

Sure you can but it might be a waste of money. Techstream is dirt cheap, easy and 100% necessary if you have AHC.

well, it may take a few hours to dry and turn fully black if you lathered it on heavy.

I checked under the car this morning parts of it are darkish blue/black but still white bits too. Especially on the rail. Fair enough, the rail probably didn’t need it as such.
